Anybody booked test ride of a Zero (electric) bike?

I test rode one the summer before last in Oakville. Two different generations, one with regenerative braking one without. I liked the one with regenerative breaking better, felt like engine breaking. I liked riding it alot, I would buy one but not now. Unless I had the cash for a second bike and used it as a commuter/around town bike. Prices need to drop a bit more, I feel they will eventually as the market matures. It's really just leading edge buyers getting then now. Range needs to increase with shorter charge times, or at least batt. swaps that work like propane tank swap programs.

Your post just reminded me. There is an electric scooter out there that competes with the ZERO motorcycle. This scooter has a range of 225 km/140 miles when traveling at 55 mph (or 129 km/80 miles at 70 mph). It has the same capacity in the battery as the ZERO does, has a faster charger than the ZERO, and has a lower seat. At USD $14,000, this scooter is also cheaper than the ZERO.

Top speed of this all-electric scooter is 130 kph / 80 mph speed.

My only point here is that the more competition there is, the faster the prices will come down.
 
With the rates we pay for electricity and all the warning's we get during the summer to turn off and conserve energy or risk brown or black outs, I really am reluctant to consider any battery powered vehicle of any sort.

I was interested in the ZeroMX and was hoping they'd get around to putting a decent suspension in it. But I guess it is discontinued now.

54hp, 68ft/lbs of torque and 265lbs ready to ride. Would have made an awesome and silent woods play bike that required little maintenance. And a spare battery pack would give me unlimited riding time for the type of riding I wanted it for.

Oh well.

I tried the EM5.7 last year.Very impressive package.If i were shopping for a new trialer,i wouldn't hesitate to buy it.A spare battey pack is $2500 tho.But it will go an entire day with one charge.

I narrowed it to two bikes.
one is obviously Zero

Each one has pro and contras. Will try Zero soon, but for ZEV will have to to PA. Good thing is they pay for airfare or fuel cost if you buy a bike.
No maintenance.. $0,07 for a "full tank".. tempting.

How do insurance work on these things? How do you answer "Whats the displacement of this bike?" with "electric" and not sound like you're driving one a Vespa? :lmao:
 
I'd like to try it. I might consider buying it were at half the price, it's damn expensive.
 
i called insurance today. they could not quote zev as it is not in their system, for zero - they did ask what is CC. i said just put whatever, 800 for example, it came to $200/year.
 
Which insurance company.... With prices like that its very intriguing.... Costco membership gets you $1000 off

I did test-ride Zero S at yamaha oakville, thanks to them - very friendly guys.
It is pure and absolute fun. Motorcycle feels like a bicycle on steroids, does exactly what I want, very predictable, light and easy.
Would be ideal bike to get around the city. Minor issues noticed - seat is like a log made from wood (easy fix) and front break reminds me of a Harley, not something modern. Everything else - as it should be. Obviously, except the price. $15.000 is a lot for that thing.
Will see.
