But what's the price tho

Edit: Found a Kijiji ad for it. $1500... hmmm.

I dunno. Not pictured: passenger footpegs, centre stand, airbox, mirrors, grips, maybe one or two fiddly bits. Throttle is not connected. The springs on the shocks are weird, maybe somebody knows more about that (looks like a period mod)

I do know the owner is a collector, he has many bikes and loves them all. He probably has all parts just not installed. It's worth a call anyway.

Is that how they write up in Waubaushene
No lol. That's the way the Fb group posts your price, not sure why the "da" gets added.

I know exactly what it would cost me, it doesn't make much difference how old the bike is insurance-wise

82 honda silver wing 27000kms $1200
honda touring fairing. has cylinder layout like a guzzi.
pipes are not stock ..otherwise looks all oem.

edit-looks to have the kit rear signal lights that are moved rearward? maybe this has bags too. shaft drive?

I'm not positive about the Silverwing version, but the CX500 (same engine from what I know) needs a triple bypass somewhere between the 30k and 50k mark to have a good long life. That involves a new stator, cam chain tensioner and mechanical seal. All should be done at the same time since you have to open the engine for each one.

I have a CX500 engine on my shelf waiting to do them.

Good price now...until the cam chain tensioner wears out and eats the inside of the motor.

missing the grab rail at back of seat too. Good to have the centre stand gone as it would drag with spirited lean about the same time as the pegs would. I owned this bike back in the day. Easy to work on-valve shim replacement doesn't require cam removal, tensioner is simple mechanical type, no auto tension. I like that it still has the oem bodywork/paint, this to me makes it a decent deal. May just need the maintenance type of work to be done rather than an actual restoration. The rear shocks look like works performance shocks, rebuild able and a great upgrade for this bike as the stock shocks are done and gone within 5000kms. I like.
and it has a nice top end hit (for 82 lol) from 7000 to 9500+, but valves will start to float @10,000 and there is no rev limiter- be careful
redlines at 9500.... Engine was pretty much bullet proof, even with abuse...

what do you mean by mechanical seal? not sure what this means. If it just needs a tensioner and not the chain itself...it wouldn't be too hard a fix? (I simply know nothing about these motors) stator/Vreg-rectifier is pretty much a maintainence deal. EDIT whoops, you mentioned opened up for each of these-
hmm good heads up on your part.

Yeah, they call it a "triple bypass" since it makes most sense to address all three when you have to address one. They are all ****** parts of that model engine. It's well documented on the CX500 forums.

Once the cam chain stretches and the tensioner doesn't do it's job, then the cam chain slaps around inside.

The mechanical seal, keeps coolant where it's supposed to be and sealed away from the mechanical part of the engine at the point of the coolant impeller.

$1200 is still a decent price for a running bike that can go straight on the road but you'd have to expect to get in to that work in a few years. You might never have to but unlikely.
