I'm watching daily updates of the Dakar 2014 on ESPN while I'm in Colombia.
Youngest competitor is 18; oldest is 72
Current bike leader is Berrada Bort; Marc Coma is 2nd and Cyril Despues is 6th
Surprising the age of the competitors for such a gruelling event, many in their 40's
Awesome scenery, all coverage is by helicopter
Today is Stage 5 and they are in Chile

Dakar is definitely one of the most intensive races in the world. it's crazy how much money is poured into that stuff now... amzing.
 
Just watching an update now on TV Fox Sports 3 here in Medellin.
Not many North American competitors - I guess distance is a huge cost factor and, as well, the Baja 1000 provides a race event much closer to home.
Peterhansel (Monsieu Dakar) is in 2nd overall, 12 minutes behind the car leader, Roma. Peterhansel is the most accomplished Dakar car participant.
Marc Coma is in the lead on bikes.
Honda has not won in 24 years!
