checking valves on KLX250s

I am coming up on 12000km on my KLX and its time to check my valves. I was wondering if there is anyone out there who can help me with this. I am reasonably mechanically inclined but I havent done anything like this before. I would come to you or if you want come up to Barrie and I can show you some of the Simcoe forest trails.

I need to check the valves on my KLR650 too. I've got the Clymer manual for mine, do you have something similar? If you've got a decent garage I'd be more than happy to come with whatever tools I can put in my bag. I was hoping to do it in late September, once the last of my warm-weather-riding has been taken care of.
