Well well, Wheelieboy is off for another motorcycle adventure.

Those that have been around the Touring section for a while would have seen my last trip on my 2005 Honda CBR600RR. http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforum/showthread.php?137789-Follow-Along-600rr-to-California

This time, I’m going on a 3 week offroad adventure to Colorado/Utah on my 2007 Suzuki DRZ400SM (with dirt tires). Got the bike last winter, rode through the winter and into the spring to train for this trip. Riding offroad is way different and requires much more coordination than riding on the street.

There’s no planned route, basically get there and explore! Going to try some camping in the most isolated places as it aint cheap to drive and survive for 3 weeks.

I’ll cheat this time and trailer the bike over to Colorado where I’ll be riding the San Juan Mountains down the Million Dollar Highway through Silverton. We’ll sneak between the mountains and climb to the peak….more of these photos!

I don’t plan on keeping a daily blog like last time, but expect some pictures here whenever I get internet access…and when I get back I’ll post the rest of my pictures/videos.

Hello Wheelieboy,
Read your last trip, and other trip suggestions you have made. Followed some of your routes on my recent trip to the CO UT area, and hope to plan another trip in the future. I will pay attention to your travels and like everyone else look forward to your posts and your safe return.

Cool! Heading out that way tomorrow morning...will be an onroad trip though. When you leaving? Might see your Ontario plate somewhere along the way. :)

Stay away from wild animals

Those hot springs in Ouray were fabulous after a day of riding. Enjoy the trails. Where did you leave the car / trailer?

So we finally got to ride offroad today after the long drive.

Started off with a difficult mountain pass and man was it difficult. Big rocks everywhere, probably 6 inch by 6 inch creating the road up, we made it up to 11000ft and with all the energy we used trying to keep the bikes up, I quickly became tired and out of breath. My friend got a flat going back down so we had to limp it back into town. Changed tires and off we went again.

Tried another mountain pass...it was pretty difficult as well but I got the hang of riding all the loose and slippery rocks. Checked out some gold mines, made it to the top and took some awesome pictures.

Super tired now, body aching everywhere....but here are some of the pictures. I'll put the rest in a public album later and post them.

Wherever is legal and convenient. Usually where we're staying

Well, I was off the grid for a while, camping in the back woods of Silverton with the bears, foxes, and deer. Freaking cold dropping to 3 degrees at night and raining.

Spent the last few days riding mountain passes with amazing views, up to 13500 ft. Exploring abandoned mines/mills, traveling to the peak of mountains, almost killing ourselves on black bear pass.
