ZX-14 Gauge Cluster

So, I managed to destroy the top half of the nose of the bike, which includes the nose bodywork, windshield, and the gauge cluster. Everything replaced pretty cheap except for the gauge cluster. These things are like $300 used. So I started to make up my own. I've been riding with just a GPS to tell me my speed. What makes it hard on the ZX14 is that a few of the data items, (tach, temp, FI codes, ...) come from the CANBUS to the ECU. I did a datalog on the CANBUS and unfortunately my logic analyser I can only scroll through individual packets and non-tach update packets are so few and far between they are hard to find, so I've only found the tach so far.

Here it is so far.
Figuring out the layout:

The PCB with the LCD:

The back all wired up:

Checking it out.

I put it on to test it out with the tach working and changed the signal LED's so they were brighter and easier to separate from the other green LED's.

I still need to get the speed indicator working and figure out the other CAN packets so I can get temp, gear, and the FI codes. Right now the digit displays are showing the fuel value and the actual tach value. I'll have to figure out what I'm actually doing with these.

Awesome project mark. Did you drive into a garage with the bike in the bed of a truck?

??
The accident was beginning of last year, or maybe the year before. I drove the bike home. No tow. Took about two weeks to get all the parts and get it back on the road, so not long. I've been running with just basic gauges since. Just something I hacked together so I could see fuel level.

I did get towed once, but that was a few years ago and because the fuel pump died on the QEW.

I've debugged all the current functionality on the gauges so far. Some of the LEDs started falling out the back today. The hot glue isn't sticking to the aluminium backing. Need to find a better way.
