Things are really starting to take shape for the RFS 2012 in Tudhope Park.

One MAJOR change this year is the parade. Due to the major expense and challenges of having the ride leave Toronto on saturday morning, we have moved the Parade to Orillia. The kick off location is just 10 minutes from the park and we are planning a (approx) 90 minute parade route that will take us through many of the towns and circle back into the park. Great news for all of us that usually get up and head down to Toronto. We get to sleep in a bit this year! :)

I'll post up most details as they become available.

UPDATE!
Ride for Sight Announces New Kick-Off Location!

This year, Ride for Sight’s Kick-Off Motorcycle Parade will depart from Orillia’s Lakehead University – just a short distance from the main event venue at Tudhope Park.

Over the past few years, it has become more and more challenging to maneuver the massive Ride for Sight parade out of Toronto’s city limits. As our participation continues to grow, it is the perfect time to move the parade route out of the downtown traffic and on to the beautiful, open roads surrounding Orillia.

Leaving from Lakehead University on Saturday, June 16[SUP]th[/SUP] at 10 a.m. sharp, the police-escorted parade will take riders along some of the prettiest roads in Orillia cottage country, before arriving at the main event in Tudhope Park.

With the route located in and around the event site, parade riders who usually come for Saturday’s celebrations can now join us for all of the fun and entertainment on Friday, without having to make the long highway ride to the Kick-Off point on Saturday morning, like in prior event years.

We encourage all riders to join us on Friday and make Ride for Sight 2012 a full-weekend experience! For those still joining us on Saturday, parade registration and a light breakfast (for all parade riders) will be available at 8:00 a.m.

Re: RFS Parade for 2012

I'm excited about the changes to the parade this year. This means I MIGHT be able to drag my sorry carcus out of the tent in time to make it to the parade.

I'm curious to see how some of the other changes go over. The big one is apparently we must wear helmets at all times while operating out motorcycles in the park. Not sure how most will react to that one. Also, everyone must be out of the park by 11am. Last year we left at 11am and there were still a lot of tents up. Have to wait and see.

Helmets in the park will never happen.

Re: RFS Parade for 2012

I, for one, feel the change to a local ride up north is postiive. Better riding roads and less traffic headaches. The past couple of years have been rough for the parade, what with no police due to the G20 or inept police getting lost. And no police through Barrie. It will be interesting to see what route they take, but unfortunately I am not making it this year, due to other commitments. My wallet will be there in spirit though.

I can picture a nice ride though Big Chute, up 69 and back across to Gravenhurst or Bracebridge. There's a road from 69 to Bracebridge I have had my eye on to ride for a couple of years, after doing it in the cage. Route 13 could be very interesting, but could be a challenge for a group ride, especially if there is the usual sand everywhere.
