Suggestions for inexpensive top box

I'd like to get a lockable, hard top box. I know that companies like Givi and Shad have excellent quality products, but the price is a little steep for what I need it for.

I found this:

Looks great, and even at 70 British pounds, it's just over $110 (CAD) for a 45 L case. Is this junk?

I'm looking for opinions or direction. Could someone tell me where I can get a decent quality case that won't break the bank?

have you looked at kijiji? Might find some good used ones at a reasonable price

Why not get a Givi? Try here, several inexpensive models, and ships from Calgary so you don't have to worry about brokerage fees. http://www.ebay.ca/sch/2nd-gear/m.html?_nkw=trunk

You can get a Givi Monolock box much cheaper than a Monokey. http://www.giviluggage.co/givi-lugg...between-the-givi-monolock-monokey-technology/

If a box that is just large enough for a single full-face is adequate, I have one off a now-departed bike I'd sell for $40 with the mounting base & key. Looks a lot like this:

Check out Bestem (bestemusa.com). You can get one that holds 2 helmets for $79.95 U.S. I had one on a previous bike and it held up great. In fact I just ordered one for my new bike.

Bonus is it has a built-in brake light; always handy to have extra lights for the others to see you.

All really good suggestions. I didn't even realize that there were more than one kind of Givi available . . .

Thanks folks.

Yup, there's a wide range of different size boxes available from Givi. There are two different lines too. The Monolock boxes are meant for lighter loads. The Monokey boxes are meant to be used with side cases and it's possible to use the same key with all three, if the locks are matched.

There's another line out there, also, that's called Coocase. They're available from Twisted Throttle, and their distributors, and they look pretty interesting. They give the option for things like remote unlocking, alarm, and power connections. They typically mount using racks made by SW Mototech or Givi.

I've seen some no name ones at CycleWorld Superstore as well, might be worth a look. If I recall they were under $100.

WOW, thanks I can finally get rid of my milk crate. One thing I love about a milk crate is that I can bungee a bunch of stuff on it and beside it. With these cheap ones I don't mind drilling them to attach a couple of hooks.

I'm going to assume sarcastic humour that this forum is famous for?

careful with drilling, that can cause the plastic to crack. you might try using a cheap soldering iron to melt holes in it (had to do that for air holes in plastic tupperware containers for reptiles). .

Yep that's the one I'm getting in the spring.

The Bestem 929 is a copy of the Givi E460

The Bestem 2012 fits on the Givi Monokey plate.

No. Im glad I found them. I really dont like the GIVI round top. Hard to put stuff on them.

I was considering at a point zip tying two milk crates to my main milk crate. :)
