Recent movies you saw - recommend or no

Completely agree!

Watched Ex Machina last night. Fairly predictable but enjoyable. Tried not to get a boner watching a robot.

You'll never look at a roomba the same again.

a few movies:

Stoker - pretty messed up but i really liked it. written by Captain Cold from The Flash tv show and directed by a Korean. i recommend it, and it's on Netflix.

Wedding Ringer - typical Kevin Hart movie. enjoyable, during the bbq yesterday.

John Wick - surprisingly good action movie. Keanu is a boss! i saw the trailer for it and i thought it was gonna be a dumb movie just because he kills a bunch of people cause someone killed his dog. turns out, it's much deeper than that.

Yup, if someone thinks that it's about revenge over killing a dog then that person either walked in 20 minutes into the movie, or really wasn't paying attention.

They announced they're making a sequel. John Wick 2 in the works.

I heard. I really don't think that it's the kind of movie that can support a sequel. "Are you back?" Well yeah, that's sort of over and done with. It's sort of like Statham's "Crank" movies. Anything after the first is just the first, again, repackaged.

I don't know.. They built up an interesting world with a few characters I'd like to see again.. Could put a Good Samaritan spin on the killing spree and make it work.

As for Crank.. That series is an exercise in absurdity.. Like action-porn - barely a semblance of a script just to give him an excuse to go on a rampage, but masterfully executed. I enjoyed High Voltage more than the original.

Agreed. They might do a story more about the world that he was in before he retired, or around The Continental, etc. They said they had a few stories in mind, and wouldn't be a direct sequel, more like another movie with John Wick, set in that kinda world.

I hope I don't get disappointed. I grew up on the first one when it came out in 1984. I remember how badass it was. I hope it doesn't crush those dreams

I have to agree.
Mad Max 1, 2, 3 = classic.
Mad Max 4 aka Fury Road = :dontknow:

This is what the entire 2.5 hours is about: a tanker trailer filled with Victoria Secret models drives across a desert - good people. A bunch of horny punks are chasing them - evil people. Eventually, at some point, the good people come up with an idea to turn around and drive back through all those terrible things that just nearly had them all killed minutes ago. As a result, they finally arrive to the starting point. The End.

What am I missing here?

You forgot the key story points of acrobats and 'splosions.

Mad Max was off the flippin chart! Holy Moleeeee
An absolute MUST have on DVD

Rotten Tomatos: 99%

Ebert: 4 out of 4

Metacritic: 90%

New York Times: 2 out of 2

My expectations were pretty high and didn't disappoint. Originals are classics. The CGI in this film make the CGI in all Marvel and DC films look like doodling with crayons by children.

"What a day, WHAT A LOVELY DAY!"

Or better yet..........get it on VHS!

....people still use DVDs?

just watch Ex-Machina. it's kind of messed up. i really like it. i recommend for people to watch. it's only got about 4 actors in the entire movie, and it's a movie that just plays with your mind. no big names.. just have to divulge yourself into the world they created.

anyone watch Project Almanac? a few of people have told me to watch it, it's right up my alley. time travel, multiple universes etc. but rotten tomatoes scored it 35%, metacritic 47% and imdb 6.3/10. i used to like found footage type of filming, but i'm over it. seems redundant.

I started to watch Project Almanac got 5 minutes in and stopped.... it's an MTV production with the stupid FP shakey camera perspective that made me wanna puke.

Beats me why people still do the shakey cam crap. "It's so raw! Guerrilla style man!" That and 'found footage' is so played out that it's ridiculous. It's not indie. It's not anything but sloppy, unless it's VERY well done, and tied to plot.

Just saw below eight. Couldn't watch it in one go. Made me want to tear up. Had to wait a few days before I could go back and watch rest of it.

Awesome movie. Way too emotional and sad. Definitely worth the time though.

Watched Ex-Machina and enjoyed it. A bit slow at parts and fairly predicatable but if you can get into the movie you'll enjoy it.

Tomorrowland. Im mixed on this one. While watching it, i liked it. The beginning and middle were awesome, ending was kinda meh. Whats worse is that the longer i thought about it afterwards the more plot holes i realized it had.

No spoilers but if you sit down and think about the plot logically, with what you're told at the end of the movie makes you realize that the while storyline logically should never have happened in the first place.

I think someone already mentioned this in this thread but I watched Chappie and thought it was hilarious at parts and kinda played with your heart strings in other parts. Pretty good movie even though it got completely destroyed by the critics. 8/10 IMHO.

Also saw Age of Adeline with the GF. Yes, it's a chick flick but it's actually not terrible and it plays with some interesting ideas so it's not a completely one dimensional love story. 7/10

Chappie took me two tries to watch because it got a bit slow in the middle although right when I stopped watching the first day is where the action picked up when I resumed on the second day. Overall not a bad movie but there were a few parts that annoyed me. Also, I found the characters of the criminals to be really annoying. I thought Hugh Jackman was really terrible in it, too. I'd give it about a 7/10.

Watched Fury recently and I'd score that one about the same.

I enjoyed it. The ending threw me off a bit as everything I read about the movie had people saying how predictable it is (see above) and I didn't expect THAT so kudos to the writer/director for outsmarting me. I like it when that happens. I guess I'm like Nathan.
