forks of the credit - disaster

Well it looks like the forks are done for the season. What a repaving disaster, stay away unless you ride a quad.

I rode through the other day and a KM or so of the road is all torn up on the east side starting at Hwy 10.

I went west to east and to roads just started getting worse as in more gravel and dirt/mud as I got closer to Hwy 10. My buddy and I jumped into the on-coming lane as it didn't appear to be as muddy. The construction crew was working away so I would imagine it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

I was there today, tractor trailer stuck on the hairpin & construction starts between the last tight turn and McLaren. Not a good day for the forks!

Basically McLaren to Hwy 10 is under construction. The guy who was working for Peel Region getting the tractor trailer backed up ALL the way to Belfountain said that the construction crew is pretty dicey with traffic control and cleanliness so take your time and watch for oncoming traffic.

I turned around at the start of construction, the rest of the road is unaffected.

I did it with the girlfriend on the back seat on saturday. What a pain in the butt. Would've been much easier without a passenger, both on handling and on the nerves. I'm trying not to drop this one (the girlfriend that is)

Ok so if coming from hiway 10 would it be better to go west on Charlson sideroad then south on Mclaren to forks of Credit road to avoid the construction?? Are any of these dirt roads too or are the paved? thanks for any info as I have a group ride this saturday and want to skirt around the construction. Let me know so I can plan accordingly ...

Don't do it. Don't go in off HWY 10, it's a mess. Take HWY 10, to Mayfield turn left (west) to Mississauga road. Turn (right) north, you'll come into Belfountain, and you can have a rest at the coffee shop at the Forks. If you want to add a bit of a thrill to the ride, exit the way you came in, and the first stop sign is Shaw Creek Road - turn right. It's straight, and hills that will give your riders a great thrill. Some great scenery too. Turn right at the end, and go straight to HWY 10. Normally I would enter McLaren, and do it all over again, but you'll run smack into the construction, so just go straight to HWY 10. You can continue up HWY 10 (turn left (North)) to Hockley Valley Road. It's in good shape. So, there you have a good ride. Hope that helps.

You can even take Old Baseline Rd right across the Bad Lands to go westbound just south of Forks, and then go north and eastbound on Forks from there. Go easy on the hairpin going eastbound though since it's a group ride.
