    West Montrose Covered Bridge

I have just been informed that the "Kissing Bridge" in it's present state is in danger. This is a great destination in south Ontario. The people of West Montrose are concerned that their bridge and community could be ruined by the plans of progress.Anyone wanting detailed directions (via the backroads of course) feel free to pm me.If i have the time,i'd be happy to show you some of our backroads out here in Mennonite country.
    The link to the problem.....http://www.bridgekeepers.ca/

what are they doing to it? Put a gravel pit?

I see lots of tourist going there, I dont see how it could be threatened.

I used to take the GF there at night. Its sooo dark there

The proposed gravel pit will be 180m from the end of the bridge.Dust, trucks, noise, etc etc etc!

Last time I went through there they stopped me and gave me the sob story too. It seems nobody wants a gravel pit/dump/airport in their backyard. You see around every neighbourhood that one of these are proposed the community all up in arms about the new changes. This gravel pit may not even have any effect on the bridge itself, but the people in the town are using it as leverage to try to stop the gravel pit.

I hope the trucks are not gonna be driving on it, because I hear horses riding thru that and I feel its gonna tumble

The talk is that the bridge would have to be rebuilt, which would then take away the herritage that it has had since being built, it's a nice quiet place and has lots of old memmories for myself too

The bridge is not being taken down, the trucks won't be using it. Access to the gravel pit is from an adjacent road.

How many times have you seen people with a sign on their lawn "STOP THE QUARRY"? Nobody wants a gravel pit close to them.

When I read their arguements against it, non really hold any water.

If the quarry disturbs the water table, the home owner's wells could run dry. You would then be right.
