I'll try to make this brief.
Riding at about 120 on the highway, heard this noise coming from my bike. Took the next exit to pull over.
Noise became louder.
No power loss.
Noise stayed at a constant.
Sounds like, pop can in your bicycle spokes.
Engine runs smooth but just has this irritating foreground noise.
Brought the bike home in my van.
was told it could be a valve or a connecting rod. (opinions from mechanics who haven't heard the noise but knew the situation)
Started the bike again yesterday after 8 months of not really caring too much.
2 friends of mine were present and noticed when the throttle was blipped the noise would stop for .5 of a second.
The throttle is just as responsive as from the day I got it.
Any thoughts?

you replace the camchain tensioner yet? if not may want to look into it

Thanks Krimes...forgot to mention the kms
CCT, Replaced about 4 years ago with a manual.
I recall the CCT being more of a whistling sound, and much much more quiet.
This noise can be heard from a good 1/4 mile away.
My friends who were here yesterday said maybe something could be wrong with the CCT itself, 'Malfunction'??
Thanks.
based on 50+k, and your story about blipping the throttle I'd say it was a valve/rod issue.
sometimes it can be something stupid like a cracked/worn sparkplug.. thats the first place I'd check.
loose or stretched cam chain...possibly. Would have to hear it to give a better opinion.

Here's a link to sound of the bike running, as of 20 min ago. OP mentioned that when the bike is revved up to high rpms (~13k), the sound fades out.
doesnt sound like a rod or spun bearing to me.
dunno what sort of noise a valve could make.
A while ago i heard that these bikes had an issue with the valve*(s) sticking and can be fixed two ways one reving the hell out of the engine to unstick it or top block tear down.......anyone can confirm this>?
