Thanks Spyug for the much appreciated advice. It's exactly that type of instruction that I'm hoping myself and others will get out of this experience.

Lucky Dragon: If yourself and some of your experienced friends would be willing to lead us, that would be awesome, but this does seem somewhat out of the way for you. Let me know since next up for me is finding the experienced riders to instruct us, then finalizing a good route.

Sounds good. I've been on several group rides, so I'll give what pointers / prep talk I can. Let me know where/when. Also, Saturday morning or sunday afternoons are better for me. Thanks & looking forward to it!

Re: "First timer" newb group ride (early July)

There have been enough positive responses that we need to break this out into several rides to keep it safe for everyone. I'm proposing a maximum of 5 "first timers" per group with a minimum of 2 experienced riders (hopefully more) per group. This probably is a good thing since we may have riders with different abilities, and people seem to be coming from all parts of the GTA and beyond. As a next step, please do two things for me (you can do this by PM if you prefer not to post publicly):

    1. If your public profile does NOT indicate where you are from and you prefer a group ride that starts in your general quadrant, let me know if you are east, west, north or downtown TO.

    2. Give me an HONEST appraisal of your riding skill. For example:

"complete newb": Got my M2 and bike this year. Comfortable at low speeds, no traffic. Not yet comfortable 80kmh and above. Still find many turns/braking situations tricky.

"experienced newb": Got my M2 and bike a while ago. Comfortable at 80kmh and above, and in traffic. OK on highways but still prefer to avoid them. Generally fine with all turns/braking situations, but still ride cautiously.

"non-noob": Don't consider myself a newb anymore. Have had M2 or M and bike for enough years or mileage that feel comfortable in all situations. Simply have never gone on a group ride yet.

This information will help put people together and plan routes. Ideally, each group will be made up of people with similar skills from similar locations (but that's asking a lot). It also depends on having enough experienced riders willing to instruct each group.

Complete newb... Speeds up to ~65mph are A-OK, but tight turns give me the hibbiejibbies. West GTA (Oakville).
