    hey BB3,

Any electrical is always a process of elimination.
don't get frustrated.. you're just getting closer to the solution!

Well after putting the new Rectifier in, its still is not working - so its my STATOR....OH GOD THIS IS DRIVING ME NUTS! And the STATOR is on back order...

WHAT SHOULD I DO? I dont wanna be long without the bike...this sux

You're certain it was bad? Was this determined by testing, or by the tech just replacing stuff until the system starts working? Just asking, not trying to stir it up, as I have seen that approach taken by other "mechanics".

it sure does sound like that's what the tech is doing.

testing out those components isn't that hard.

55V on one pole isn't bad at all, i think the specs are 55V for the lower limit and 60V for the optimal limit.

so at the end of the day its going to cost...$500min + labour? wow!

What's the tech going to say next? the battery must be OEM?..replace that next? and the entire wiring harness?? another grand there?

I don't think they'r giving you good service there....

    Are you sure about this?
Sounds like it was completely mis-diagnosed.

With the new rectifier, is the behavior the exact same?
In post # 1 you show that you measured everything and it's all perfect??

I think what needs to happen is you (or someone) needs to have a voltmeter installed in a visible location, and take it for a ride, watching the voltage...
and once it's hot, and the voltage does not behave normally, at that point (while it's failing), stop and test both the stator, and the rectifier at the side of the road (simple tests, posted by mike.from.canmore).

Isolate the problem, and take it from there.

Right now, sounds like your mechanic is taking the random guess approach.

I believe you have an intermittently failing component that fails when hot (after riding for a while) - based on what I've read here. and this needs to be tested when the conditions to cause the fail are present.

What I don't get is.... if the stator was tested, and 2 phases were good, and 1 was low (but within spec???)... why would they be looking to replace the stator.

I rode my '96 gixxer for a week with only 2 of the 3 phases connected. (melted connector). I have a constant voltage meter installed, and I disconnected 1 of my 2 headlights during this time. With only 2/3 phases I had enough power to keep the bike running (one headlight) and keep the battery charged. Never had to boost. Once I got some free time, I repaired the melted connector and now have 89,000 kms on the OEM stator and rectifier.

Well i am getting the bike today - after 2 weeks waiting for the part from Japan...its all in and testing at 14.7 volts!

I will see how much the bill damage is..they said he will see if he can help me out..i assuming $550 before tax...(labour, new Rectifier, Stator)

They should help you out since they seemingly mis-diagnosed at least once.

Could just be mis-communication though - who knows.

i just called - he told me the manager is gonna knock off 10% of all parts, and also 1 hours off the labour - 2.5 to 1.5...Nice of them..

mark the mechanic and Richard the guy at the desk are awesome! Even though is still gonna be pricey..im still happy with great service and care...Brampton Suzuki.

    That's all that really matters.

Congrats on having your bike back.

Same thing happened to my bike last year. I'm sooo happy it was covered under the free extended warranty they gave me.
