radiator smoking!

i'm hoping someone here can give me a little insight into my technical problem.

I have a 08 kawi 250. I've just noticed that when I start the bike and wait a few minutes i see smoke coming out of my radiator and it smells a little like something is burning. I've checked my coolant and it seems fine. I don't see or hear my fan come on which may be the problem but I'm not sure and before I take the bike to the shop, I'd like to try a DIY fix, if it is something small.

anyone have any ideas what may be the problem?

Was your bike out in the rain or was it wet?

I had a small leak that dripped coolant on to the head. I could smell antifreeze but the level hardly ever dropped.
For me the smell was obvious in rain but also the first stoplight on my morning commute. Not the same bike but maybe same symptoms!
