Re: Passenger Dead - hit from behind

Well, for anyone interested, I thought I'd post an update.

My sister and mother drove out to Whitby in this lovely storm today to be present at the sentencing of the woman who killed my niece.

This woman is in her 30's, a soccer-mom type with a couple of kids (oldest is around 17), and didn't so much as apologize for what she did. The judge read out her driving record and she has scores of accidents to her name, and while injuries did occur in those other incidents, this is the first death she's caused.

Anyway, the sad penalty for "not paying attention" (which is how she describes the cause) is that she loses her license for two years, pays a $1000 fine, and spends weekends in jail (Sat morning to Sun night) for about 40 weeks.

The fellow who was driving the motorcycle that my niece was a passenger on is still wheelchair bound with serious back injuries and may never get back full function of his legs.

Oh yeah, and the woman's husband divorced her.

    Welcome to the justice system.

to not even appologize knowing the pain that her carelessness has caused. That's brutal.

RIP to your neice and condolences to your family on their loss.
