    Beginners need recommendations/advice

My wife is 5'1" & I'm 5'7", so we need a lightweight motorcycle to start. I've driven off road bikes years ago, so I have experience riding. Although my wife doesn't have any experience.

We are thinking about getting a Kymco Venox 250cc Motorcycle for our first Motorcycle. It's lightweight, looks great, quality built & affordable.

Below picture is from totalmotorcycle.com review on the Venox: click here

Any other recommendations besides a Venox?

If you're looking more for a cruiser style maybe look at an older Yamaha Virago 250. Or a newer Yamaha V-Star 250.

Agreed, looking more towards a cruiser, but something with a bit of a sporty look/feel to it as well, if anyone can recommend .

We want to try out the Venox for size, and visited a dealership, but they had none in stock. Cannot seem to find anything else that has that interesting cross between cruiser/sport.

I did, however, sit on a Hyosung cruiser, and could flat foot on the ground with no problems and found the bike to be easy to hold steady. It was not intimidating in the least. I am used to riding horses 6 hands tall or more, so there are many things I am willing to take up as a challenge!

Please keep in mind that I am 5' 1" and my husband and I are looking to start out wisely. This could very well be a bike we keep long term, while hubby is probably thinging to step up to a bigger bike later on .

It certainly looks like our hearts are set on the Venox 250, doesn't it?

Now I won't blab on any more except to ask an honest crowd's opinion of a Buell Blast. Apparently they have a lower seat configuration available? Even saucy replys will be considered. We will just save the sauce for dinner .

I sat on a used Virago 250 and a Marauder just 1/2 hour ago. Virago didn't "feel" right to me. The Marauder seemed a little more suitable .

Is it possible that the clutch and brake controls on a bike could be swapped for something that would fit my hand size? Some of those have quite a large stretch for a small hand.

There must be some customization possibilities there. Not everyone has paws like a bear .

Welcome .. i was just reading an article on the Venox recently.
It looked like a half decent bike ..

Have you also looked at the Hyosung models yet?

They have a 650 and a 250 in the cruiser style .. one looks like a V Rod replica.

The articles got me curious about that lil' bike.. I don't see myself owning a cruiser but I'd like to take her out for a spin.

Yep, sat on the Hyosung 250 cruiser, and can flat foot quite nicely and reach the handle bars no prob. It didn't feel unstable or unmanageable, and I could tip it upright and take it off the kickstand no probs. It has a nice, comfy seat too.

The clutch, however, requires someone with a larger hand spread than mine, so if there was any way possible to swap in another with a smaller grip, it would be perfect. Would even go as far to say it's a "cute" bike, but that would probably drive some away from trying it out too, lol .

The only other thing is that hubby reeeeeeeeeeaaaaly wants me to sit on a Venox and try it, 'cause he's leaning towards this bike as a fave. I like the way it looks too, so would hate to dissapoint both of us by trying it out only to find that I look the equivalent of a pimple on the moon when perched in the seat.

nice and light compared to what? lol Mine only weighs 260lbs! haha

CBR125R is a great starter bike if you're looking for a sporty.. but the on you picked looks sweet too. I'm going to go for a cruiser bike like that next. I like the sound of that style better. but I love my pinkster too.

The Honda cbr125R- although ppl love to make fun of it is a great first bike.. its so much fun to ride... its really light weight compared to others so your 5'1" wife would fit on it perfectly and be able to handle the weight too. I hate how the bigger cc bikes are so damn heavy!
