Re: Went down - forks bent (among other things)

I seem to have gotten the wheel back in alignment with the handlebars. I loosened the upper and lower triple tree clamps and kind of bent it back into place. The fork tubes look pretty straight now, but I notice they still don't compress as smoothly as before. Would this indicate that there's damage to them or that the tubes themselves are bent?

Thanks for the continued advice guys, I've pmed kneedragger to see what he'll say.

fork tubes bend right under the lower tripple....

so carefully look around there for bends/kinks, maybe a crack in the chrome plating...this will indicate if they are bent.

if you trully want to make sure they are bent, u'd take em out, put the chrome part on a flat surface, roll it and use a feeler guage to see if it lifts at any point.

both tubes bent, i rode it off Deals Gap like that for 11 miles to a shop.

a lot of damage was done...both tubes bent, both tripples were tweaked and the front axle was tweaked.

he bent the forks back and i rode it back to Toronto...mind u he did say this is a temp fix only and u should change your entire front end ASAP.

When my forks were bent on my first crash along with the plastics it took all of 1 min for my adjuster to write off my bike it was a 8 month old 600rr. If I were you and you have no prior claims just let them write it off and buy it back take the cheque minus your deductable and the buy back price take that money search ebay get yourself a new front end and plastic parts pick up what you cant find from the dealer. I bet you pocket a few thousand.

You know you at least need new forks if your low side went like this:
