    23, full G clean record ZZR250

I'm looking into what insurance would be if I get a ninja ZZR 250 (2000-2007). I'm 23 with a G license, I've been driving for about 5 years and have a clean record. I don't have an M2 yet, but I plan on taking the course. I live in Aurora.
    What do you guys think?

I think it's a good bike to start out on. It is by far the most popular starter bike. A company such as Jevco would be a good start for you. Their price is the same for M1 or M2 so you won't need to wait the full 60 days after having done the course to get your M2. Their rates are reasonable for someone your age. Look at the insurance sticky on this forum and call some brokers and get some quotes.

    Good Luck,

Have you been licensed at least five years? This is important. If so, then my guess is that your best rate is with State Farm, since they will credit your car experience as motorcycle experience. They won't take you unless you have been licensed for 5 years though.

After a couple of years, then Jevco will probably be a better deal.

You best bet is to get a quote through both, and see how they compare. Avi can quote you with Jevco.

State farm is more like a hit or miss, depending on the agent!

You do need to show 5 year licence and must carry a full G.

With state farm, don't you have to be over 25 in order for them to even consider you?

I can tell you first hand that State Farm in Aurora is a good option (my agent is Martin Bermingham, and I spoke to Lindsay).

You definitely don't need to be 25+ with State Farm, but you do need 5yrs' driving experience. I'm 24 and pay $850 for full coverage on my 06 Ninja 250. As everyone else will mention, you need a squeaky clean record for SF!

good luck with teh ins shopping!

The insurance sticky should have lots of agents listed who are "bike friendly".

I'm not employed by State Farm, but they certainly have my bike business. I really have no other choice, seeing as I have a GSXR1000 :P

Does 'driving for 5 years' meaning having your FULL G? Or when you started driving, so G1 or G2?

I've had my full G for about 4 years. But I've been driving (G1 and G2) for 6 years.

How many years of riding experience do you have? it sounds like you're in your 2nd or 3rd year or riding.

    I'm 22, 1 minor ticket, full G, had G1 since 17, I was quoted 1500 from Jevco.

Call Avi when you have time and ask him to run some quotes for you.

An insurance company counts the number of years licensed as follows:

    Years Licensed = (1) + (# of Years with G2) + (# of Years with G)

You only get credit for one year for your G1, even if you had it for four years. It is not in your benefit to hold a G1 license for a long time. Some companies might credit you your entire G1 experience, but they do not have to according to regulations.

With State Farm, I believe you have to be 5 years licensed, and you must also hold a class G or M (which you could have got yesterday for all they care, so long as you have been licensed for 5 years since your G1). I could be wrong about this though, since I don't work for State Farm, but their competition

Excellent. I took a driving course so I only had to hold my G1 for about 8 months. I held my G2 for well over a year, and have had my full G for about 4 years. So that puts me over 5.

Unfortunately the company I have auto insurance with doesn't insure motorcycles, but they sent my info to an affiliate company and are going to call me back with a quote within a week. In the meantime I'll try to call the other companies, thanks for the info guys.

A week? Look at the insurance sticky or the insurance specialist area on this forum and you'll find a group of agents and brokers all of whom will have quotes in your hands within hours.

I should have mentioned that some companies might treat your 8 months with the G1 as 8 months driving experience rather than one full year. It all depends on the company. The point I was trying to make is that companies are only obligated to give you up to a maximum of one year of experience for your G1. For example, if you held your G1 for 3.5 years (I have no idea WHY people do this, but some people do), then the insurance company only has to credit you with 1 year of experience.

So, depending on the company, the formula would be one of the following:

    Yrs Licensed = Max(Years with G1, 1) + (Years with G2) + (Years with G)

    Yrs Licensed = (Years with G1) + (Years with G2) + (Years with G)

    Yrs Licensed = Min(1, Years with G1) + (Years with G2) + (Years with G)

    Yrs Licensed = (1) + (Years with G2) + (Years with G)
