    You guys and your DRZ400's

    Will do.

My dual sport tires should be here next week. I'm not sure how much they will help. I hear were getting some rain in the next few days. Any more mud in there and for sure I won't make it far

I sit here reading this thread and shaking my head... if I didn't see the pics, I wouldn't believe somebody would actually take an R6 on trails meant for a dirt bike.

Buy a dirt bike for the love of doG and quit wrecking your STREET bike.

Wait till I get the pics from Gnu. He took a couple while we were out on the trails. I still got some people that sent me few PM's and said "no way you took your R6 on the raglan trails..." LOL!

    Re: Street plated bike offroad?

I woulda been driving a lot harder, but I didn't want to bend my rim on those nasty rocks and chunks of concrete sticking out of the trail (also didn't want to put a stick through my radiator either!).

If I get spare rims to mount my dualies on, I promise to push harder

Here we are just off Boundary Road

This is the only road Jamie couldn't get through. He got about half way in and his back tire slid into a deep rut full of soft sticky clay. His bike was lighter to lift out than a KLR! LOL

End of the ride... not enough suspension and too much arm pump on the whoops through the Pits burned out his arms!

A comparison of the back tires for todays ride.

Jamie did really well in the dirt... better than I thought a street bike would. Only one wipe out and that was on the mud road he couldn't get though.

Their intended purpose was for racing, why don't you guys buy scooters, the handling ability of a vespa is still beyond anything either of you are going to need.

lol. Your plate seemed to stay a little cleaner

I loved it when you buried your bike 3/4" of the height of your tires in that sticky mud! I thought for sure you were done... "More throttle, clean out treads = get through it!" haha! That was great!

Here is a better idea of what we were trying to get through:

Thank Gnu for lifting my bike out! He was like "Ok, lift..." and I'm like "I am!"... My arms were already spaghetti by that time, so I wasn't helpin much

We were able to get it turned around on that clean patch of forest floor there, but like I said, the drive back was way harder then the drive up to that point.

*edited to add: Oh yeah, SWEET FRIGGIN PICS MAN!*

I want to go with my yzf250 so I can have a great laugh all day long!
I'm surprised, but... If you want to do this, get a real trail bike and then you can really enjoy it.

The whole day was great, except for the gettin stuck part, but it wasn't too crazy. I loved the look on the faces of all the other riders! I like to stand out. Doing it on a dirt bike would just be "the norm"

He is enjoying it, I don't understand everyone's negative attitude towards him doing it. Between all the "motorcycle experts" who say he is wrecking his bike to those that say he HAS to have a dirt bike to go off road. I guess that means everyone with an SS bike should only be riding it on the track because that is what it was meant for. Some on here consider cleaning their bike all day, then hanging out at Timmies comparing their matching leathers a fun day, well he likes riding his bike out on the trails.
Any ways Jamie, here's another one of my favourite areas we should check out... less mud to wash off... LOL

    OMG! WHERE IS THAT!

I'll be all over that like Fly on Sh*t! How deep can my R6 go before it starts sucking water in the air intake? I'll e-mail that question to Yamaha Canada and Yamaha USA (along with some pics of todays ride) for the official measurement.

    SWEEEEEEEEEEET! Can't wait.

    -Jamie M.
(P.S. I like that first pic where you can see the bottom, clear clean water! Don't need to be hittin any big rocks in the middle )

    Re: Street plated bike offroad?

Wow, Yamaha Canada impresses me yet again

Me: "At what depth would my 2008 R6 suck water in? Are there any other problems you could imagine going through water (ignition shorting out, computer going crazy, etc.)? Thanks!

    Attached pic to e-mail:

If Suzuki can do it, please don't tell me my Yamaha can't!"

"Thank you for your question. A review of the specifications for your model year does not list an answer to your question. Thank you for contacting Yamaha Canada."

No name, no contact info, from donotreply address, gee thanks!

    Now HERE is the answer:

"Thank you for contacting Yamaha Motors USA. My name is Melanie and I am a product specialist for YZF R6 R1.

Please understand that the information I am about to provide is not a representation, by any means whatsoever, of Yamaha Motor Corporation.

I was able to find some internal documents from 2006 (search 2008 WATER R6) where during a quality control test, the maximum water/air saturation (like riding in monsoon level rains) the R6 could ingest and still run properly was examined. The tech notes on the report may contain the unofficial answer to your question. I have scanned the notes section for your review. Please follow this link, login: xxx password: xxx:

"During test 3 water entered muffler and the engine stalled. Please check."

"Found R6 to stall when submerged over 18 inches at idle rpm. Water entered muffler, reached valve, high backpressure, engine stalled. After removal from being submerged engine started normally and ejected water from muffler. see note 2."

"2: R6 does not exhibit similar problems at 3,800RPM or above up to depth of 27 inches. Above 27 inches water enters intake tract. no defect found."

Now THAT my friends in an answer! So, keep the RPM's up, make sure no water comes above 27 inches, good to go! sweeeeeeet.

    -Jamie M.
(P.S. I wonder if they sell a snorkel kit for the R6? )

I have nothing against what he's doing, his bike, his $ and he seems to really enjoy it... Just thought it would be more enjoyable to do it on the proper bike... Thats why I have 2, one I can go blast the whoops and jumps on, and the other to rip the asphalt up with...
I mentioned I'd like to tag along as it's something I would like to see, honestly I'm impressed!

    Re: Street plated bike offroad?

I guess I just like doing it different

If/when it starts to cause problems with the R6 I'll invest in a dedicated off-road contraption.
