19, insurance quote for 12 000!!!! help

hey guys, just joined the website... and so far im liking everything i see. Im soon to get my m1 and soon after a cbr125R 2009. Im 18 years old and want to start riding as soon as i get the bike... can i get some possible approximations for what i would be paying for insurance... and also i live in dundas not toronto. I have had my g2 for 3 years. Also what happens when winter comes along.. still pay insurance? thanks alot for all the help. also looks like a great day for riding today....enjoy

Alot of what your asking can only really be clarified by an insurance broker. That being said i will try and help you out. You will not be paying 12000 in insurance, you have to shop around for an insurance quote, you will most likely be in and around $1500/yr. Please take the time to call brokers, internet quoting systems are for the most part useless. Most companies will prefer you pay in a single lump sum, whereas only a very few companies will accept monthly payments. That may also be a factor for you shen looking for insurance. So just give a few guys a call, and you should see the $20,000 figure disappear. Good choice on the bike and have fun out there.

Call some brokers. Your best fit for that particular bike is likely with Kingsway General.

Since you are young, my guess is that you will be at more than $2000/yr, even though the bike is only 125cc.

You cannot suspend a motorcycle policy over the winter . . . you essentially pay a premium that allows to ride at any time of the year. Some plans might allow you to pay monthly, but if you cancel in the winter then you will owe the insurance company a lump sum of money. 90% of the premium charged is to cover you for the Spring/Summer months.

When I started riding at 18, I got quoted 1300 for that bike through Cornerstone. Im guessing that might have gone up a bit, but you'll definitely be paying less than $1800

i got the same 12,000 dollar quote and im 21 like someone said earlier just means the broker doesnt want your business....found a quote for 2247 the next call for my CBR600 M1 license
