you know I was wondering how they had Buells racing against 600's at the Daytona 200
http://www.superbikeplanet.com/2008/Nov/081121fr.htm
"1100cc liquid-cooled, four-valve V-Twins will legally race against the top 600s in both the Daytona Sport Bike and Supersport classes.
The newly released rules list as homologated machinery for both classes: Aprilia RSV, BMW HP2 Sport, Buell 1125R, Ducati 848, Honda CBR600RR, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R, KTM Super Duke, Suzuki GSX-R600, Triumph Daytona 675, Yamaha YZF-R6.
Interestingly, Ducati is limited to 848cc while Buell and other twins are 1100cc or better.
...
DMG will be striving to make the Sport Bike and Supersport grids as equitable as possible. How this parity is accomplished with 130-140 horsepower motorcycles racing against 600s making dramatically less power may be interesting, to say the least, to watch."
so it's not an hp or torque thing, how do they determine what's fair?
They'll let the big twins win a couple of times, for the headlines, then throw some weight on them. No use talking about it until they win, which won't be easy despite all the ponies.
I like how they quote stock hps for the CBR, like someone would actually show up with a stock bike, those factory bikes are over 120.

i think the V-Twin restriction also depends on the power-weight ratio or peak HP, preventing the 1098 from entering.
I also think that some of those thunders will be racing in the 600 class here in Canada.
Who cares...the Buell's gonna fall apart on the track anyways!

At least they used black and not Silver...lol.

I had some hopes for this race series, but so far its been the biggest debacle going. The sad thing, is the debacle isn't the rules, or the stupid "safety" car, or 1200cc motorcycles in a 600 class or the other dozen things that don't make sense. It's the television coverage. Who the hell is going to wait 7 days to watch a race. You already know the results unless you live under a rock. Quite frankly the only thing worth watching is MatM thumb his nose at the whole organization with his various polite barbed comments.
Bah...good thing WSBK is shaping up nicely.
