Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt. - William Shakespare
it depends where you go.
Some organizations are more finicky than others, with good reason.
The shannonville series will allow you to pay your annual license fee, show up and race the beginner class.
However,
the school is highly recommended for anyone that plans to do this as supermoto is a bit different than any other kind of motorcycling as you have to be able to apply roadrace, flat track and motocross racing techniques multiple times per lap
We're trying to establish a new series, and the fastest way to chase new riders away is to send them home hurt/damaged the first day,
I'm pretty sure you found this out quickly your first time out?
The asphalt part is easy, everyone figures that out quickly, but turning/jumping in the dirt, on slicks with no prior experience or training is a quick way to end up on your head.
I don't intend to ever race but skills improvement is always a good thing.
So I find myself getting interested in this but I have a few questions.
What is required for tech? Or how much am I going to have to strip down on my bike as it's street legal? Is water with water wetter, removing the mirrors and taping up the lights sufficient?
Is leather required or is MX gear suitable?
And how booked up is it so far?
Thanks

water/water wetter is a MUST, as is light/mirror removal
a dab of silicone on both oil drain bolts/filter bolts and any other fluid backed bolts would be highly recommended.
MX gear, with with full under armor is acceptable(TLD speed jacket, Thor impact Rig SE, 661 pressure suit)
its your skin, but there is the possibility of coming off at speed on the asphalt, so regular MX gear with no elbow padding etc isn't going to work very well.
MX pants with compression shorts and a leather jacket work well.
There are about 15 students signed up for the April 25 date I believe, not sure how many for the May 9 date.
still room in both dates.
If I get a bike in time I will attend one of the schools dates.
I will be in need of some good gear (all I have is street/track day).
I like to have the best I can afford.
What local shops have a good selection?
If you have roadrace trackday gear, you'll be fine.
What about the boots? All I have is a street and a track boot. Do I need a MX style or somethin specific like the A* supermoto boot?
I'm bit of a gear nut and don't mind spending $ for gear.
roadrace leathers with MX boots will work.
You may want to buy an MX helmet with goggles as well, it'll be a bit easier to breathe.
Considering I have no MX experience. I haven't trail rode a dirt bike in about 15yrs. Would it be better to start off in MX for a year or 2 before going supermoto. Or just jump right in like I usually try to do?
The dirt jumping on street tires is sounding more intimidating the more I think about it?
you'll be fine.
My wife has been street riding for about 10 years, but had ZERO off road experience.
I had her jumping in the dirt on slicks the first time out.
You'll be amazed at how much traction there is, its just a different type of traction.
Stuffed you??
I simply used what traction was available, you just happened to be part of that traction equation.
Besides, if I followed you, I'd need my nurse to change my colostomy bag by the time we got out of the dirt section.
There's always a bike in the garage for ya, sonny!
I get my cyl Head back redone with new valves tomorrow. Once I slap it on and test her out I will signup and be there for april 25th
