First ride of the season and I"m getting issues already...

just went for my first ride of the season.

Had some issues with the power cutting off. Not sure why.

At a red light, the rpm would just go down below 1000 all of a sudden and I had to throttle up a bit just to keep it from stalling. When I got home, pulling up the driveway, the rpms went down below 1000 again and the bike shuts off along with all the lights and display.

    Any ideas?

My bike is a 2005 CBR600RR. It has 11000 kms on it. All stock. The battery is pretty new, it was on a battery tender through out the winter. The bike was properly winterized (Oil and filter changed before storage, cleaned and lubed chain and sprockets.

    Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like a battery issue... test it, and check the connection like toasterboy said.

    thanks.

I checked the ground wire and it was loose on the battery.

I also checked my engine oil level and it appears I overfilled it. Could this also be the problem as well? What are the symptoms of overfilling the engine?

I guess I'll drain a bit of oil out before my next ride.

I doubt the two issues are connected. overfilling your crank will only cause gaskets and seals to leak due to increased pressure. drain the oil and tighten those battery cables. and dont be so paranoid! i know, owning my first bike i thought the clutch was broken but i didnt even know how to shift the damn thing and i started blaming the seller. take it eeeeeeeeeeeeeeez.

It depends HOW MUCH you overfilled it by.. if it's just a little bit then don't waste your time trying to loosen the bolt until it drips... cause you'll just end up losing your entire tank of oil that way. Oil naturally gets burned in the engine (a very little bit, but it does get ingested nonetheless). If it's a little over the line I'd say just rider 'er easy for a little while until the excess gets burned off... if you rev too high you may blow your seals...

my bike takes 3L of oil after changing filter.

the motul container contains 4 L of oil. There is still 1L left in the container. Not sure why its overfilled. But when I looked into the glass window, the oil goes pass the max line. It actually goes all the way up pass the glass top edge..

I guess to be safe I should just drain some oil out.

Which seals are you talking about specifically?

I always overfill mine so that the pickup stays in the oil during extended wheelies.

No seals of mine have "blown"

Which seals are you referring to?

Could be just the stabilizer in the gas tank causing the bike to run crappy. Drain out the old gas and put in some fresh stuff.

Did you quote yourself, and answer your own question?

I think the Toastman solved his problem AND once again demonstrated that it's usually the simple things
ride - if you want to

Be sure to check the oil level with the bike on level ground and holding it upright.

Thanks for all the replies. Appreciate it.

I did notice the ground wire was loose on the battery ground terminal. But have not had the opportunity to test ride my bike to see if this was in fact the problem. Hopefully the temp goes back up soon.

I also drained the engine oil to the appropriate level.

I had my bike up on both front and rear stands when I did my pre storage oil change. I guess even after 10 mins of allowing oil to drip out from the drain hole, some oil will still remain no matter what.

some oil will remain unless you do full overhaul
