But at the least, the actual celebrities on the Oscar's have more merit over the reality stars that we spit out every month.

Oscar Wilde? Oscar the Grouch? Come on, there are some good Oscars out there.

I think it will just be more of the same old shyte from the BO administration. Ron Paul was the "real deal".

"Limited constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, sound monetary policies, and in particular strongly opposed American involvement in the War in Iraq. He also called for abolition of many federal institutions including the FBI, CIA and Department of Education, abolition of the federal income tax and an end to the war on drugs."

That's some real f'ing change right there.

And thats why he isnt in the Oval Office now...

And he wanted to bring back the Gold standard for the US currency. Not a bad thing per say, but a completely unfeasable proposition considering the entire worlds reliance on FIAT money, and the fact that there is not nerely enough gold to back a fraction of the US currency...

The guy was a joke, he may know a great deal about economics, but his application for our times is completely unfeasible and ludacrous. Hes still stick in the 50's.

At the rate the US spends and borrows money it's no wonder there's not enough gold to back it with. That doesn't make FIAT money a good thing. Paul just recently wrote about this subject on his site with regards to the secretiveness of the Federal Reserve.

    "
This week the Federal Reserve responded to the American people's increased concerns over our monetary policy by presenting new initiatives aimed at enhancing the Fed's transparency and accountability. As someone who has called for more openness from the Fed for over 30 years, I was pleased to see the Fed acknowledge the legitimacy of this need.

The Federal Reserve controls the flow of money and credit in our economy because Congress has abdicated its responsibility over the nation's currency. This process therefore occurs centrally, and almost completely outside the system of checks and balances. Because of legal tender laws, people are left with no real choice, except to build their lives and futures around this monopoly currency, vulnerable to powerful central bankers. The Founding Fathers intended only gold and silver to be used as currency, however, inch by inch over the decades, this country has backed away from this important restraint. Our money today has no link whatsoever to gold or silver. For many reasons, this is extremely dangerous, and has a lot to do with the boom and bust cycles that have resulted in the crisis in which we find ourselves today.

The Fed is now pledging to reveal to the public more about its economic predictions, and calls this greater transparency. This is little more than window-dressing, at best, utterly useless at worst. Many analysts, especially those familiar with the Austrian school of economics, saw the current economic crisis coming years ago when the Federal Reserve was still telling the American people their policies were as good as gold. So while it might be nice to know what fantasy-infused outlook the Fed has on the economy, I am much more interested in what they are doing as a result of their faulty, haphazard interpretation of data. For instance, what arrangements do they have with other foreign central banks? What the Fed does on that front could very well affect or undermine foreign policy, or even contribute to starting a war.

We also need to know the source and destination of funds provided through the Fed's emergency funding facilities. Information such as this will provide a more accurate and complete picture of the true cost of these endless bailouts and spending packages, and could very likely affect the decisions being made in Congress. But with so much of the Fed's business cloaked in secrecy, these latest initiatives will not even scratch the surface of the Fed's opaque operations. People are demanding answers and explanations for our economic malaise, and we should settle for nothing less than the whole truth on monetary policy.

The first step is to pass legislation I will soon introduce requiring an audit of the Federal Reserve so we can at least get an accurate picture of what is happening with our money. If this audit reveals what I suspect, and Congress has finally had enough, they can also pass my legislation to abolish the Federal Reserve and put control of the economy's lifeblood, the currency, back where it Constitutionally belongs. If Congress refuses to do these two things, the very least they could do is repeal legal tender laws and allow people to choose a different currency in which to operate. If the Fed refuses to open its books to an audit, and Congress refuses to demand this, the people should not be subject to the whims of this secretive and incompetent organization."

I think it's pretty ignorant to simply write him off as a joke. He seems like one of the last true patriots left in America, good luck seeing any true "CHANGE! CHAAAAANGE!" from Obama.

Oh, I dont expect Obama to change all that much at all. "Change" is just a marketing tool, nothing more. I do not want to sound off as ignorant so let me rephrase.

Ron Paul is not a dumb man. He definitely knows quite a bit about economics in general. However, his ideas are very outdated. His biggest policy was returning the US currency to the gold standard. This would essentially ruin the United States. There is not enough gold to back the massive amount of currency and debt. What happens when a country needs to borrow or go into debt? Who do they borrow from? There is not enough gold for this, its simple economics really. In the 30's, 40's, 50's this worked because the scope and magnitude of the world economies were not NEARLY as large as they are today... thus making the gold standard useless.

Im not saying FIAT money is necessarily a good solution to currency backing. In fact theres a lot of things wrong with it, namely inflation, currency fluctuations and instability in currencies. However, it is the only feasible option in our time. Trying to bring back the gold standard would essentialy end our world economies as we know it, and bring us all back to the stone age.

Like I said, Ron Paul isnt a stupid man, quite opposite, his ideas and way of thinking is just outdated.

Well I'm no economist so I can't really debate his stance on monetary policies and the specifics of going back to the gold standard but his views on foreign policy, war, domestic government spending (the entitlement/welfare state), reducing government scale and control, etc, etc all seems to make a lot of sense and I haven't seen ANY politician talk about these kind of issues.

All the rest are more about maintaining the status quo and serving the wealthy and elite rather than the people who elected them in the first place.

LOL, which is why a man like Ron Paul will NEVER be elected into office. Too many stand to lose too much with a guy like him in office...

I don't know Ron Paul but from the sounds of it, everything he stands for has died with the economic crisis. Surprise surprise, it turns out that there IS a role for government in society after all, and it's role is not to make war to get rich but to ensure the stability of the nation's institutions so that it can sustain growth. That's something that pure unadulterated individual freedoms can't even come close to doing.

Nah.... the US hates voting democrat. Hates it.
Basically, they'll vote in a democratic president when things have really hit the crapper, begging for forgiveness and hoping they can save the country. Then, once things are fixed, they'll vote for the next Republican they see, regardless of how much of a tool he is.

Case in point, both Clinton and Obama got in after a Bush ran up a huge debt and proved to be an inept war-monger. Only difference is, they let this 2nd Bush REALLY screw things up before they voted Dem.

    2016, Republican President almost guaranteed.
And they'll let the Reps back into Senate soon as they can.

Hell, the US is the only G8 country without (socialized) health care, and they (Rs) can still convince the country that it's the most horrible thing to come along since Russians with Nukes.

I'm a fan of most of Ron Paul's ideas. However, the one that I can't back is a free market. Laissez Faire (sp) economics just does not work. This current banking issue in the US is the perfect example of how out of control an industry can get without proper regulation.

The gold standard - well, I don't know how that works, so I have no opinion.

nope, not by a long shot. politics is a pendulum, things will swing back the GOP's way. I can almost guarantee within the net decade they'll either get control back of Congress, the White House or both.

Either because the GOP can reorganize itself, the grassroots will get enthused again by the "Evil lefty's in power" or simply because the grass is always greener on the other side, people will see that things haven't changed radically under the dem's (they never do, regardless of who's in power) and will want the other guys back in power so they can "fix" things and make "changes"

I think he is more relevant now than ever. Here's a few good clips of him on the bailout plan of creating money out of thing air and grilling the chairman of the Fed...
