    sv650s track day mods

So i'm planning on hitting up afew more track days this season. Last year I took the arc level 1 course at Mosport development track and I had a blast. My eyes were totally open to what riding the bike is really about. So i'm looking at making afew modifications to my sv650s 2006 to prepare it for the track. So far these things are on the list or that I have already done to the bike.

Is there anything else I should be looking into in order to make my bike ready for the track?

    1) Michelin pilot power 2ct tires
    2) Some racing bodywork probably from squidskins cuz he's local
    3) framesliders.
    4) new stiffer fork springs and thicker fork oil.
    5) new chain (old one is busted) and new sprockets 1 down on the front and 2 up on the back
    - I ride cuz i love it.

#1) If its track only go real DOT race rubber or slicks.
#2) Good choice glass is easier to fix than stock stuff
    #3) Again good desicion
#4) Might want to get emulators as well. A good shock is also a good plan
#5) Good chain yes, gearing no. Depending on the track gearing will be different. For example Mosport Long Track you will be max speed halfway up the straight.
    #6) Steel brake lines

    Re: sv650s track day mods

i was thinking of getting the 1 down 2 up sprockets just for a little quicker acceleration. When I took the arc level 1 course with turn 2 their sv was set up with 1 down on the front and 2 up on the back, and it reved abit faster. I figure since i'm buying a new chain i have to get new sprockets too, so i might as well as go with something that will give me abit more midrange power.

What do u think about this?

Throw on a rear shock (I put on a ZX10R rear shock, bolts right in - check ebay) they make a HUGE difference, at least as much as front springs (I also threw in Racetech springs and oil). Get rid of the stock exhaust can, it weights a TON.
Steel brake lines.....I have to add them in early spring.

i have everything that you need to make a street sv into a track bike, including some rashed track body work, full and just the half fairng (the ones from FAST).
Penske shock and racetech prepped forks, chain and sprockets with 16 laps etc....

i was going to put it up on ebay next month, but i'll start here first.

Get a shock for sure. I also did the ZX10 upgrade and WHAT a difference.

Springs and emulators for sure as well. If you are going to change springs anyway, get the emulators dropped in at the same time.

I might be interested in the penske. Setup for a gen 1 or 2?

i doubt it. i didn't get nearly the seat time i wanted, and it showed. I'm selling every piece of the 05, including the motor, rims etc.

dankyyz, the bike is a second Gen. I picked up the shock from Paul Glenn.

I think the SV grids are going to be big next year.

I am expecting the SOAR BOTT grid to be SV heavy as well. I have talked to a number of riders that will be fielding SV's.

    +1 with the following additions:

    4) DEFINITELY + rear gsxr / zx10 shock swap is a MUST (cheap off ebay)
    5) I disagree - the stock gearing is too low for the SV - 1 up / 1 down would be more flexible for most tracks - 1 up/ 2 down will make it super buzzy on the road, tho
    7) rearsets - get gsxr ones cheap off ebay
clipons - lower the stance for a more aggressive position, or just lower your existing ones by 1in

or simply just get all the stuff Mau is selling - he knows what he's talking about.

At the risk of repeating what others have said ...

Get the suspension sorted out! I've ridden an SV with stock front end and a stock ZX10R shock. The shock is important but the front end needs work, too. If you want to get serious about this, break out the credit card, give the bike to John Sharrard (Accelerated Technologies), and tell him to fix it.

    Hi
Do you guys know where I can get an enclosed/race legal belly pan for the first gen SV,
and Mau will your penske fit a first gen. I have a custom subframe so space around the reservoir isn't an issue.
I would recommend Motoslider sliders for the SV.

    Thanks,
    Ahmed.

Hi guys, i don't want to hi jack this thread. I've had a lot of inquires regarding the shock.
i don't know if it will fit a first gen. i can only say for certain that it fits the second gen.
PM me if you are looking for anything else. I will be posting everything for sale on ebay in mid-Feb.

Amhed, i know someone in the SV class running a first gen with a belly pan from a second gen that's slightly modified.

    Who's bike was that ?
You managed to get it around Shannonville pretty good..
    Ok, Well Trombino was faster

My SV is my street bike now that I have a dedicated track bike. it has a ZX10R shock and Racetech .90 springs in the front.. A lot better than stock. Later in the season I put in Emulators now it works way better. Particularly over sharp bumps like the frost heaves on Southwood.. Depending on your weight a 636 shock might be better. There's a ton if info on SVRider.com
