Don't even bother. It will be something ridiculous like $4000/yr for just liability. Stick with the 250 for a couple more years, you will continue to learn a lot and don't be so hasty, you have the rest of your life to move up to bigger bikes.

A little about my self...
I'm 16 and got my m2 in July. Ive been riding my 06' 250 Ninja a lot since then. Its something I like to do and is my source of transportation. I'll hopefully be going for my g2 in January 2009. I was hoping to get a new bike next year, I was leaning towards a 01-02 cbr600 F4I or a 00-04 ZX6R. I'm curious as to what insurance company you guys are with, and how much you are paying for your 600cc SS. Also if you have any tickets and anything like that. This is for young riders that I'm wondering... 16-18 year olds. Just want to get an idea of what everyone else is paying before I make some phones calls.
When the time does come next year i'll have had my m2 for almost a year, and would have recently recieved my g2. So I'll have my G2M2, with no driving tickets at all.
Also right now I'm paying $2304 a year from Kingsway Insurance for my 2006 250 Ninja.
Thanks

I'm paying 1860/year Kingsway for a 250. 18 here. Don't even bother upgrading yet, its gonna cost 4-5k ATLEAST. Its gonna be the same price as the bike you're buying. there aren't that many young members on the board, so don't expect alot of info on insurance cost for this age group. Best advice, just call them.

This thread is not what i expected...lol
at 16 i was quoted 5 grand for a 1991 zx6, with m2. i got a older yamaha 350cc rode it for 2 years and then bought a zx7 at 19. a zx7 for a 19-20 year old is about $2300 just liability.
stick with the 250 for another year or sell it and get a 500cc if you really need it my cousin pays $2200 at 17 m2. keep learning its the best thing you can do. i have never been one to say dont get the powerful bike but i do recommend smaller cc's at a younger age i really respect my dad for not letting me buy a 600cc as my first bike, and its made me a better rider. master your first bike you will have no problems moving up in another year or so.
If you want something with more power (but not overly powerful since you're a beginner still) and isn't ridiculous on insurance, think about a used Suzuki SV650. I have one and it's a great bike. I only have my GM2 (but I'm also 24) and I'm paying $2000. You might get away with $2600 - $3000
Mada, you should shop around, unless you have a record. Im 20 and pay 1800 for a CBR600f4, that's not even with Statefarm .
To the OP, you should definitly look at a SV if you want a bigger bike. I started on a Ninja 500 i loved it! Don't get caught up in the looks of the bike

the ex500 was my fave bike when i got a chance to demo the whole 2004 line. even better than the z1000.
id recommend not moving up yet. get a year or two under your belt. learn to REALLY ride that thing.
and +1 on not ignoring the ex500 b/c of looks.
Where the jailbait at?
