over torqued on putting in the spark plug and now half of it remains inside. how can i get this out? the part that broke of is the threaded part of the spark plug...everything else came out.

Screw extractor from CDN tire or Princess Auto. ( http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/pr...romSearch=true ).
Go to Wikanswers (http://wiki.answers.com ) and search on "how do you remove a broken spark plug" for the technique.
Also put some grease on the extractor to catch any chips or fragments that may come off.
    Good Luck!

    +1

I'm leaning towards the same idea. Was the plug cross-threaded or just overtorqued? I'd say you're lucky that the spark plug broke before your head stripped... because you don't want that.

Try Ontario Cycle Salvage on Kingston Rd. and Warden. If they are not closed for the season.

+1, or unless your extremely patient...you will do more damage.

you can do it, just dont be hasty. take your time.

you might want to try External retaining ring pliers, if you havent cross threaded them...

put some LIQUID Wrench around the metal part too...

    Be very careful with this:
    1. The extractor has to be the right size, otherwise you will strip the threads near the top of the channel.
    2. you WILL drop filings into the cylinder. Get an extendible magnet and fish out the pieces before you install a new plug.

This happened to me on my old bike as well. Make sure you take your time and extract carefully. After that you;'ll have to test to make sure you can save the threads by screwing the plug in carefully and backing it out several times by hand until it doesn;t feel like there are any obstructions.
Remember hand tighten and if it is a crush washer type, do an extra 1/8 to 1/4 turn only.
    Good luck.

The magnet is a good idea , but make sure you have accounted for any ,missing ceramic material that make up the center of the plug .

You most likely cross threaded the plug, if so the threads in the head are all ready damaged. The best way to repair the damage is remove the clyinder head and take it to a machine shop or someome that knows what they are doing.
On a side note, you are suppost to screw the spark plug in by hand and then tighten to around 18ft pounds.

Take a quick pic and post it up here, so we can all see exactly what you did and just how bad it is! I know a mechanic right in your area who works out of his own house and he can probably help you out, but you'll have to transport the bike over to him. I too might be able to help you out, but I need to see exactly how bad it is!!!! Post some pics, please!!!!

    Cheers........

A magnet will not pick up aluminum or ceramic material. Best to remove the head before attempting anything.

Good advice.... that will land him in the same position he is in now!

Spark plugs require 8-12 ft/lbs MAX! Ive never seen any sport bike call for more then 12 ft/lbs on the spark plugs....

i dont think anti seize would do anything unless i take off the valve cover. but even doing that i feel sketchy. the ceramic part is completely out and only the metal thread is left in the valve cover.
