    Who's insuring ZX14's???

I have State Farm currently and am paying just too much.
    2007 ZX14 Ninja
    34yrs old, male, M class since I was 16!
Perfect record, other than a 5km over ticket 1.5 yrs ago, yes a FIVE over!

Insurance is crazy. I have 2 snowmobiles insured with one company, 2 trucks, and one other bike and a big snowmobile trailer with another company and the boat and home with another.

That's FOUR insurance companys simply to get better rates. I've tried to put them all together and one of them would have one vehicle at an outrageous price, so it wouldn't help to do so!!

Any of our specialists got any ideas? Duffy couldn't help. The problem is the BIG ninja!
Someone please restore my faith in the Canadian Insurance situation!!

    Thanks

Wow, that's a lot of toys!

Maybe you could try getting a quote with Wawanesa. I'm not sure if they blacklist the ZX-14, but they might be able to make an exception since you have a LOT of other business to offer.

Also, try getting a quote with Aviva Elite . . . IIRC, they have some pretty decent bike rates. Again, the ZX-14 might be blacklisted, but hopefully they can make an exception.

Also, send Avi Singh (a broker on this forum) a PM, and maybe he can help you out, although I think he deals primarily with Kingsway and Jevco for his bike business.

    Cheers!

Mine's insured with The Co-operators. Pretty clean record (God I hope they don't run an MVR on me for at least 3 years).

I have full coverage $500 ded on Coll and Comp. I pay $1,400/annum

Now I do work for them but no discounts with the exception of a multi-vehicle discount of 15% for both car and bike and I did have to give up my first born to get them to insure me.

Are you insured under Co-op's current rating algorithm, or are you on a grandfathered algorithm from a company that they have acquired?

    Cheers!

Does someone (perhaps an insurance specialist) know who exactly regulates the Insurance Companys in Ontario?

I am sure I must have more rights in this situation!!

    Re: Who's insuring ZX14's???

You've got the 'right' to find another insurance company, though the current one doesn't owe you anything more than a quote.

FWIW, I pay just under 90$/m on the 14, full coverage. No tickets, no claims, a bunch of buisness with SF and 30 years old (though this rate group's been the same since I was 25).

Most people find your location has a big effect on your rates. I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see my rate jump 30% if I got any closer to the big smoke.

Insurance is highly regulated by the Financial Services Commission of Ontario.

You haven't old us what your "insane rate" is, but I doubt any other insurance company will even come close to State Farm on a ZX14.

Where you are located, called the Territory, can have a significant impact on your rates. When we set rates at the head office (that's what I do for a living) we analyze the losses occurring in various geographic areas. Not surprising, the experience is much better in rural areas than urban areas, so rural people pay less. If you are in the GTA, the worst areas are typically Scarborough and North York . . . so very pricey! As an example, an Auto policy in Scarborough will likely cost you about double what it would cost in Guelph.

Can you post up some more information for us? Especially your city, premium, and coverage?

    Cheers!

    Re: Who's insuring ZX14's???

    Hey guys,

I'm about to switch to RBC. The ZX14 isn't on their list of sportbikes. I'm dropping collision/fire/theft just to keep it at the same level I was paying with SF. The reason is, I can get way cheaper auto/home insurance through my company's group rate but they use Jevco ($3000/yr) or Traders (won't insure +1000cc) for bike insurance.

    So RBC will be...

    $1228/yr No coll/theft/fire
    Toronto
    Clean record
    No mulit-vehicle discounts
    30/married

Does anyone know of any other companies (offering stand-alone) that cover the best bike ever? (at a reasonable price)

how much more is it to add theft? I know mine was pretty much peanuts on top of my liability only

    Re: Who's insuring ZX14's???

Well, if I match my coverage it's about $2200 with theft and collision. I think it works out to about $600/$400 for theft/collision respectively with RBC. I just need to keep the wife happy with the amount I'm paying for the bike insurance($100/month). If it goes up too much, I'll get the "why don't we think about selling the bike?".

    Re: Who's insuring ZX14's???

Ok fellas. I spoke with my StateFarm agent and he said location doesn't matter.
I told him that people are paying much less than me. He said it's impossible.

So could you guys that are paying less please scan or take a photo of your insurance forms for me. Cover up your name and info, but show me the important parts.
    I'd like to show him.

Thanks. Money's tight...and $190 a month to see my bike under a cover for 90% of the time is BS.

Vifferfun, my postal code is M9A 5G4. I have a perfect record. The 5 over I got over 3 yrs ago the SF agent says has NO bearing. It should be clear of my record now anyways.

I will be 35 in May. I had my M BEFORE I got my G in 1990!!! I have insured bikes (at GREAT rates) for a good part of that time.
    I have a condo, 2 snowmobiles, 2 SUV's and a boat and the 07 ZX14!

Insurance shouldn't be based on Statistics. NOT until I become the statistic should I pay large!!

Full coverage from State Farm on my ZX14 is $190 a month. They will drop it to $118 a month if I insure my 2002 Tahoe with them, BUT they want $3000 a year for the Tahoe!! I currently pay with Lombard $900 a yr for the Tahoe!! You can't win!
