Adding Reputation

Does the "Adding reputation" icon actually work?
I've been posting here for over a year now, and still haven't gotten one rep :S.

I know on the other forums I belong to, the rep button is used frequently. Is it even used on here?

Your infraction disappears after 10 days, well, as long as you play nicely with the others.

LOL. I know, sounds hard when typing on the internet, but I did it too and received an infraction. I was typing something and talking all tough, intentionally misspelled the 'f' word in order to bypass the swear filters. I didn't think anything of it, because people here seem to swear all the time (unless they're ALL getting infractions)..

I don't really understand it either. It seems if you just type the word you're OK since the filter catches it. If you get around the filter but are too close to the real word, you get in trouble from the mods.
If you get around the filter but are pretty far from the real word, e.g. just the letter 'f', then I THINK you're OK, right?

Also some swear words are totally missed by the filter.

This forum is a problem for the guys with Tourettes.

So what's the point of GTAM's mechanical censorship? Is it to ease tensions between the readers and the OP? Filters don't do jack. The subtext is loud and clear... if I want to insult another member, I can call CruisnGrrl a Neo Nazi Leninist Feminist illegitimate woman with a chip on her shoulder and three nipples. Which is worse, that or calling someone a fu**er ?

Mechanical censorship is preposterous and I'll arm wrestle to proove it.

Censorship is in place so that people at work / home can read the forums without seeing all the inappropriate words.
I guess if you must call anyone any names .. you havent read all the rules here. Plus no one is forcing you to return to the site if it bothers you that much.

And censorship is here to stay, and ill arm wrestle ya .. lol .. ;0

Yep it works, I just gave you (Obiwan) some rep. Check your userCP to see it.

Click on the scales under the avitar to add.

moosio - no one else can see you have an infraction. Like inferno said it all best.

You should have a positive rep now! You better be good or I will change it to negative

The green square below your name, in your posts, indicates you have a positive rep.

I guess I just got a little confused because some of the other forums I go to have a notification in your message box when you get rep.

Just remember that you have to specify if you're giving positive or negative rep, or it just ends up being a note in the user's profile with no effect.

When I add rep I have a choice of "approving" or "disapproving", not anything inbetween :S

You can submit without choosing the type of reputation that you wish to add, which results in a message with no actual reputation given
