Going downhill sucks because it's not a constant radius, The radius decreases quickly after the apex. That's why every one runs wide.

Going uphill rocks, Where else can you drag your knee at 45kph

Have to agree though, there's way better corners in the area to get good shots.

Okay, here's the deal. For the photographers, there are many different areas along that road where there are wide enough shoulders/land to pull far enough off the road and set up. Let's not jam everyone into the hairpin.

This way people can get different shots of them riding, maybe even on one pass.

Example: This is a ways East of the hairpin:

Well I'm not sure if I'm going yet but if I do, I won't be setting up in the hairpins...too many riders won't take those two corners as well as they would like. So with that in mind, I will find a spot where they will look better.

For gawds sake though....don't LOOK at me!!!!!! You may end up "parking" not far behind me.

Considering the rain...the afternoon would be better.

Here are some pics that I captured today at the Forks.

Don't even bother asking about the pics that depict illegal activity. I don't know the people who were photographed braking any laws...period.

Although one rider did crash coming out of one corner, I did not capture the incident. I was positioned to shoot the entry and apex and when he scraped at the apex, he stod his bike up and went off into the watery ditch. He had some minor road rash and a bent peg...could have been worse.

When you came through, I was standing in the trees away from where you would have been looking to make the corner. I have a few more but some look like crap. My camera is acting wierd lately and not focusing nearly as fast as it used too. I think it needs to be serviced. PM me your email addy and I'll send you a few.

I may be back there tomorrow.

Did I catch everything that people did wrong in the last pics.

Seriously though the pictures that were taken on Monday came out really nice and if you are in the area you should try to make it out as the picture would definitly be a keeper. I am doing that big ride on Saturday so if I am not too tired from that I am going to try to swing through
i might get luckey, i might have a chick!

    what time abouts? after 11am?

Re: Phorks Photo Phun - Sunday, September 7th, 2008

Ok guys and gals, heres the deal for today. I will be heading to Forks again today for about 1pm. I plan on being there for a few hours depending on whether or not it rains on me.

If you "happen" to notice a red BMW (cage) either before or after a corner...odds are I caught you. Make a couple more passes!!! The more you run thru my corner, the greater the odds are that I will get a good picture of you without traffic in the background and without blur. (damn camera)

I took a lot of pics of Kari yesterday (I didn't know it at the time though since I've never actually met her) simply because she ran the Forks a few times. I remember thinking that either this rider is a total ham for the camera or really loves this road!

After you've passed by a few times, feel free to stop at some point and say hello.

Once again if you notice me....STOP LOOKING AT ME!!! Look back at your corner!

It's a good way to blow your lines and at the least you will look silly, at worst...well, I don't want to pickup another rider today. Especially if it was because you lost focus by looking at me on the side of the road.

One more thing...don't try and show off for the camera and for gawdsake watch out for cagers. Only 1 in 10 cars stays in their lane.

Going up is way better then going down. Because the turn is wider, everyone can lean it over a little more and make an easier, safer turn. You can also see oncoming cars better. If you are going down, the turn is so tight that odds are you are nearly vertical at 5-10km/hr and if some cager is going thru at the same time, you will only have half a lane to work with.

Well I'm not leaving for a while, I will post up when I do since it takes about an hour for me to get there.

I'm not keen on the idea of standing in the rain taking pics so perhaps I will hold off until around three depending on what people say the rain is doing in that area.
