    Re: cam chain tensioner

I just installed Honda's newest version a couple weeks ago, J24 I believe, it was really tight on the F4 frame but definitely do-able on your own if you have proper tools.

The old part still functioned properly, the only difference between the new part and the old part was that the old part had a tiny bit more play in the shaft and the tip. But the play was not in the direction of travel, it was side to side.

Hey does anyone have an idea of what a bike shop or mechanic would charge to tighten an Ape manual cct on a 2001 F4i?? I have tried twice to do it myself but it seems that after loosening the tightening bolt a bit it gets stuck and i cant seem move it back anymore.

I think I need mine changed, it has a small rattle on startup and now has started a rattle while i ride, so im not sure if its even the camchain, but cant think of anything else it could be.
If it is the tensioner, on my 2002 r1 how easy is it to get at?

I changed mine last month on an F4, took about 2 1/2 h from start to finish. From what I've heard the F4 is a bit harder to reach than the F4i, so it may take you less time.

Once you have it in hand and start listening to your engine it will show its self to you.

If you don't feel feel buying one you can use a long metal bar, put one end to your ear and start putting it on your engine and follow the noise till it gets louder. Better?
