My friend bought a Japanese market bike. It has red "SPEED" light that comes on. I'm guessing it only comes on when he exceeds a certain speed. Is that the true limitation of the bike, or is that just some safety nanny thing that the Japanese have put on there and can be ignored?
i think it might be a japanese law. because my old 87 corolla, the JDM equivalent dashboard had a "ding ding" sound when you exceed 100km/h. but i think this was an old law that was abolished after the turn of the 21st cent. hahaha, well thats what i think anyways.
In past years, Japanese domestic-market vehicles were required to have that warning, and in many cases they are also governed to an artificially low speed. Yes, it is a safety-nanny thing. I don't know if they still have that nowadays. It can be ignored.
No ... the original poster is for sure talking about the speed warning lamp. Nothing to do with a shift indicator lamp on certain high performance bikes.
