You could check out the VSRI & Stromtrooper forums as well. Many people have farkled their Stroms to be off road capable, but as-is-out-of-the-showroom, it's not an off road machine...

My Wee may see some gravel and hardpacked dirt, but I will never take it off road.

The most common problem with motorcycles is the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle.

Perhaps with major modifications you could take a V-Strom off road.

Of course you could probably take a Harley off road with the same modifications.

And again, depending on your definition of off road, the modifications may be as little as swapping the tires.

Let's be real. The V-strom is a road bike. And a great all around touring bike.

    KLR's SUCK!!!

    At being dirt bikes...

    At being street bikes...

But, I rode mine to Mosport last weekend, and I think I did more mileage on the inside track in the sand, gravel and grass than I did to and from on the highway. The thing is a beast of a bike, but ton's of fun. Slow on the highway, and too heavy off road, but it'll do both.

That V-Strom is a wild bike on the Blue Ridge Parkway though, I chased one on my '05 Honda VFR and he showed me how you scrape pegs with it.

    It sure is!

Also on the Skyline Drive, the Tail of the Dragon, on the Cherohola, and all the other amazing roads around there!

It also was just fine cruising on the interstates down there and back as well.

Re: Anyone used a V-Strom on Dirt

Here are several reasons why you wouldn't want to:
    - weight (and its all up top)
    - alloy frame. A heavy bike with a stiff alloy frame doesn't flex and if the GSXR frame can break on the road, don't want to think what would happen offroad
    - cast alloy wheels. You may be able to ride out of the woods after dinging a rim on a rock with spoked wheels and normal offroad rims, but a chunk missing from a cast rim and lubeless tires is asking for trouble offroad
    - brittle plastic. Tipping over a Strom will cause the same damage as tipping over any street bike. Fairing parts, turnsignals, bars, levers are all not worthy for any offroad tipovers.
    But hey, its your money.
