Picked up a can in Brantford. They still had a dozen or so left.

Looks like the temporary shortage due to high demand is over. It seems that Lowe's is doing a pretty good job in maintaining their stock.

As a side note, if they are out of the spray & you really need some they have a smaller non-areosol bottle of the same stuff.

Well if it's BusaBob recommended then I must have it for my Busa!

P.S. I suspect the hording has stopped by now but if anyone needs some I picked up 3 bottles from Brampton, 410 & Kennedy location, there were 10-12 bottles left.

I use the blue can stuff exclusively.

35,000km on my last chain, without any special cleaning required. Just wipe it off occasionally. 1000km between lubes, and the chain stayed shiney.

The chain was still good when replaced, I just felt like getting a new one

Just one caveat... Don't use it in cold-weather applications (sub-zero). I made the mistake of not remembering that it also contains a wax and sprayed it into my car door locks.. Then it got down to -10 and it took a lot of alcohol to get'em moving again. That's where you'd prefer an oil-based lubricant (usually either mineral or silicone).

Can't wait to try that one, thanks for the hint. My chain has never seen any other lube and it's currently at 0ver 33,000Km of hard riding (quite a bit through heavy rain, two-up or on dirt/gravel roads). Still within spec, although probably not for much longer. Sprockets show almost no sign of wear. On top of all that, it never messed up any other part pf the bike - even the chain guard is still clean.

Re: Review: Dupont Teflon Multi-Use Lube for chains

Update: My chain now has 42,000Km on it and still looks OK. I'll replace it during winter months just so I don't have to do it in the middle of the season, but it seems like there's some life left in it. I'll examine it closely after I take it off and post the findings here.

Background details: It's a DID 530ZVM2 gold chain on Renthal sprockets. It was adjusted at the loose end of the range and only at rear tire change (~10,000km), washed only once (last season) and lubed exclusively with Dupont Teflon spray once every 300-500Km. It's on a heavy and torquey bike (80fp) with a rider who likes good acceleration and is not afraid of dirt/gravel roads or heavy passengers .

Re: Review: Dupont Teflon Multi-Use Lube for chains

Perhaps we should have a poll thread just to see how many kms others have gotten with this lube.

As for me, I'm at 14000+ km .... and have only had to perform 1 very minor adjustment recently ... DID 530 chain ... usually clean the chain and rear sprocket thoroughly every 1500/2000 kms.

I actually use this lube on mine and my kids bicycle chains.

Every 2,000Km? You are not riding enough . 5-7 times for a bad season (over 10 for a good one) is too much time to spend on chain maintenance, IMHO. I don't even check my tire pressure that often.

I don't think we need a poll, BTW. This thread is a good enough reference. For me, Dupont Teflon beats everything else out there, including automatic chain oilers.

Definite yes for last 2 years ... also, first bike so I guess I'm being perhaps more cautious in trying to get the most out of the chain ... plus I usually clean the chain as I'm watching the kids play outside ... you know out in the street with the cars ... so not a total waste.

Re: Review: Dupont Teflon Multi-Use Lube for chains

I used the Dupont Teflon Multi-Lube on my chain this year and although I've not noticed any adverse effects, it does fling a bit more than the Belray Chain Lube (the white coloured one that clings t the chain).
It's little messier and accumulates on the frame cross member and sprockets as a dark grey paste, and in slighty larger quantities than the Belray.
Other than that, the chain doesn' t look too bad at all and the sprockets are also not worn. I'll stay with it as it's easier to clean the chain with tis stuff and the chain looks a little nicer.

Re: Review: Dupont Teflon Multi-Use Lube for chains

about 20k on sunstar steel sprockets on a '98 srad 600. with a 525 RK XSO chain.

chain was used with 2-3k on it, and stored for 2 yrs.

When I got it, i put it on with all new steel sprockets, it stretched when I first put it on, and ones again.

So for 20k, this lube is working really well.
