I watch sports..hockey, cycling, F1. But nobody seems to care on this board too much..hockey a bit I suppose. I don't watch soccer/footie really. In Germany, soccer is on tv 24/7..bundesliga, serie a, whatever. Nonstop..

For some reason this site can never keep a sports thread alive. Do bikers not watch sports?
What's everyone's picks this year
I'm rooting for the Germans but I think Italy will be the team to beat this year.

Germany!
Great news about Ronaldo.
Spain. Hey its a longshot, but I'm true to my team
GO GERMANY!!! Having followed the Euro, World Cup, Champions League since I was born, this is my prediction:
Qualifiers Group Stage top 2
Group A: 1) Portugal 2) Czech Republik
Group B: 1) Germany 2) Croatia
Group C: 1) Italy 2) France
Group D: 1) Spain 2) Sweden
Quarter Finals, winners in bold:
Portugal vs Croatia
Germany vs Czech
Italy vs Sweden
Spain vs France
Semi Finals, winners in bold:
Germany vs Portugal
Italy vs France
Final:
Germany vs Italy (WC2006 semifinal revenge)
Of course there are surprises, I'll make more accurate picks after the first games.
Italy will take it again...even without their Capitan canavarro!
Go Scotland.
"The Christian god can easily be pictured as virtually the same god as the many ancient gods of past civilizations. The Christian god is a three headed monster; cruel, vengeful and capricious. If one wishes to know more of this raging, three headed beast-like god, one only needs to look at the caliber of people who say they serve him. They are always of two classes: fools and hypocrites."
- Thomas Jefferson
Portugal and Germany... what happened to Ronaldo though?? And does anyone know if Figo will play this year... i guess i cold look it up but too lazy
~Serene Chaos~
my pick is Italy. ... OBVIOUSLY!
group A.) Portugal and Switzerland
group B.) Germany and Croatia
group C.) Italy and Netherlands
group D.) Spain and Sweden
Quater Finals: Portugal def Croatia
Quater Finals: Switerland def Germany
Quater Finals: Italy def Sweden
Quater Finals: Spain def Netherlands
Semi Finals: Portugal def Switzerland
Semi Finals: Italy def Spain

Portugal chokes all the time, they wont get nowhere...Figo retired from international play...
Italy vs. Germany in the final, 3-1 Italy wins...
Ronaldo has a bit of an ankle sprain. he might miss a game or 2 but he's more then likely not out for the tourney, which makes Portugal a dangerous team...as long as it doesn't go to penalty kicks haha
Spain has a bunch of young guys Torres, Casillas, Alonso, et al who might not be ready to win it all this year, but they'll give a good showing, even without Raul .
group A.) Portugal and Czech
group B.) Germany and Croatia
group C.) Italy and Netherlands
group D.) Spain and Sweden
Quater Finals: Portugal def Croatia
Quater Finals: Germany def Czech
Quater Finals: Italy def Sweden
Quater Finals: Spain def Netherlands
Semi Finals: Portugal def Germany
Semi Finals: Italy def Spain
Finals: Portugal def Italy

Something tells me that there will be a few surprises this year. There's more than a few dark horses running around, with something to prove, and nothing to lose reminding me of Greece, the last time around. Nevertheless, I'm putting down my bets on the smart money.
Group A: Czechy + Portugal
Group B: Germany + Croatia
Group C: Italy + France
Group D: Sweden + Spain
Quarter 1: Czechy over Croatia
Quarter 2: Germany over Portugal
Quarter 3: Italy over Spain
Quarter 4: France over Sweden
Semi 1: Germany over Czechy
Semi 2: Italy over France
Winner: Italy, only because the Germans dive like u-boats, and the last time their u-boats were diving, they lost.
PS. Almost forgot the obligatory North American, HURRRR soccer is girls and sissies HURRRRR Real men watch sports where the players molest themselves whilst wearing eihter 3 inches of Kevlar body armour or tight clothing HURRRRRR.
Last edited by CageyB; 06-03-2008 at 12:03 PM. Reason: Real men don't need 3 inches of kevlar to play a game
Italians are the reason why the word "dive" is used in soccer!
This is how they train:

Not one of you guys even thought of picking Greece to at least move out of the group stage. They had the highest points overall in qualifiying and are a better team than they were 4 years ago. Spain is solid but still young and have a long history of choking in the final tournament.
The Italians look strong again so do the Portugese. I think the dark horse is Croatia this year. They had a very solid qualifiying and the team looks solid.
Is anybody going to the tournament? I got tickets for Greece's three group games in Salzburg. If any of you guys are going to be there, we'll have to do some GTAM drinks in Europe!
