'Shwa Resident Looking for First Bike

Hi everyone, just thought I'd write to say hello.
After giving up racing MX for 12yrs+ (favourite bike was a CR500R fully modded) I'm now in the hunt for a sport bike.

I'm looking forward to meeting lots of the members here when I finally decide on the bike.
If anyone's got any recommendations for a bike I'm all ears. Likely something in the $6-7000 range and I'm 5'10" 210lbs. Looking for a 600 or bigger (I've ridden a few all the way up to some nice new litre bikes). Would like to have something that won't cripple me on a ride to Ottawa every once and a while so I was thinking maybe an F4 or similar.
    Any help is welcome

    Welcome.

An FZ6 would be a great beginner bike and comfortable for the ride to Ottawa. Plenty of zip as well. Someone in Brooklin had one for sale on the board a while ago... you might want to check it out.

I don't know who came up with that. I grew up in the Northumberland area and only moved here in the past few years.

If you were used to a CR500 you will want to go bigger than a normal 600.
I will probably get bashed for saying this though.

When I was shopping around I was bent on a 600, but my friend who I have been riding dirtbikes for years had just picked up a CBR600, and said he wished he had of gone just a LITTLE BIT bigger. He is an outstanding rider overall, but if you can handle a CR500 safely any 600cc supersport is going to feel slow as hell.

When I hop on my gsxr750 I feel like I am in slow motion compared to my CRF450...(of course, I am not talking about highway speeds).

    How old are you?
Just remember that riding on the street could take your life and respect that and you should be fine with anything you decide.

I'm 31 and don't plan on doing anything too stupid. I have plenty of friends that have gotten litre bikes (R1's, ZX10R's) as their first ride and most of the guys I know who have gotten 600's have all wanted something bigger within the first few months.

I'm kinda of the impression I'll go for a 900/1000 and be wary of just how far I turn the throttle for the first bit.

Yeah you should be good, but if you want comfy rides to Ottawa a supersport might not be the best route. Maybe something sport-touring'ish? SV1000? I dunno, never been on one, but just throwing it out there. Not sure how many litre bikes you can get in your $6000 pricerange, even used. Unless of course you go quite a bit older.

Good luck! Let us know what you decide on!

What about Honda Black birds? They are going for decent prices, I could sit on one all day.
