    blockheads on the CBC

So finally the provincial government might be doing something useful to reduce the number of traffic accidents ...

There was a CBC segment regarding possible new legislation to ban the use of cell phones while driving and here was the feedback they chose from callers:

    1) talking on a cell phone is no more distracting than talking to a passenger, therefore there is no good reason for banning cell phones --

    2) Instead of an outright ban, people should be educated to talk on a cell phone and drive at the same time .... make it part of the ministry examination

Everything from how to make your pet love you to sappy miracle stories and now out of probably 100 callers they choose the most idiotic responses .... I feel so patriotic

I dont see anything wrong with talking on a cell while driving. The problems occur when trying to open a beer at the same time. Somethings gonna give.
Sorry, Luke. I'm just doing my job. You gotta appreciate that. Nah, calling it your job don't make it right Boss.

You are right ... for all the riders out there less than 12 years of age, dumbasses should be changed to blockheads

Considering some people don't have the ability to drive even when they're not talking on the phone, I think the cell phone ban is a GREAT idea...What the MTO doesn't realize is that they should make the drivers examination more difficult...But then they'd probably think they were taking away a civil right.

    That's a pretty dumb suggestion...

Even if it were possible to train someone in this field, is the government supposed to foot the bill so that 90% of the city can LEARN to talk on a cell phone while driving?

Whaaaaaaa????? You insult people who post on your forum - how can you expect people to support your site if you call them whiny *******??

Ummm I couldn't care less that you changed the title to blockheads .... so, lemme see ..... would you prefer I post about some dude I saw wearing shorts and a t-shirt or whether or not I should buy a blue or a yellow helmet???

The point of this post was to stimulate some discussion on cell phone use in cars and possibly the pathetic state of canadian media (albeit unsuccessful, at least Guy has some feedback)

Yes, I also think it's a great idea - it's that kind of silly resistance which impedes progress. Maybe once the number of traffic accidents are reduced after banning cell phones the govt will pay less attention to street racers

Teaching people to multitask while driving is a vacuous suggestion - our brains just aren't wired that way. It's like teaching people to walk and juggle three balls at the same time .... no matter how hard they try, some people just aren't coordinated enough to do it

BTW Paul ... this is directly from the FORUM RULES you posted:

You may not post messages that are obscene, violent, abusive or designed to harass or intimidate another individual. Pornography, Warez, or any other illegal transactions may not be posted or included in members profiles. No blatant nudity. Swearing is not permitted. There is a filter in place to change any swearing that may be inadvertently used, however if you purposely attempt to go around the filter, you will receive an infraction.

This is Paul's board and if you don't like the rules that he made and you agreed to abide by, then perhaps another board may be more to your liking.

Talking on cell while driving - not dangerous

Talking on cell while driving via heaset/bluetooth - less dangerous

Talking on cell and trying to reverse or change lanes - little dangerous

Texting on cell while driving - very distracting

hahaa ... ok, you got me on that one

definitely don't expect anything sensible in this country. That's why I go to other national networks for my news - unless I want to find out about the most recent shooting at jane and finch in which case I'll tune in to citytv

Either way, most people need to pay some attention during a conversation (though I can think of times when this is not necessary) so there is less concentration left for driving

Yeah??? Well, I installed a cup holder and cruise control (throttle lock) on my motorcycle so I can a) send text messages b) drink a supersized slushy and c) wave to people with my right hand .... all simultaneously!!!

    Beat that, BRO
