I dont see anything wrong with talking on a cell while driving. The problems occur when trying to open a beer at the same time. Somethings gonna give.

So finally the provincial government might be doing something useful to reduce the number of traffic accidents ...
There was a CBC segment regarding possible new legislation to ban the use of cell phones while driving and here was the feedback they chose from callers:
1) talking on a cell phone is no more distracting than talking to a passenger, therefore there is no good reason for banning cell phones --
2) Instead of an outright ban, people should be educated to talk on a cell phone and drive at the same time .... make it part of the ministry examination
Everything from how to make your pet love you to sappy miracle stories and now out of probably 100 callers they choose the most idiotic responses .... I feel so patriotic

Sorry, Luke. I'm just doing my job. You gotta appreciate that. Nah, calling it your job don't make it right Boss.
I thought it was those couple of seconds you take your eyes off the road when you take the last swig.
dumbasses on the CBC
This is a family site. How did the swear word get by the filter?

Considering some people don't have the ability to drive even when they're not talking on the phone, I think the cell phone ban is a GREAT idea...What the MTO doesn't realize is that they should make the drivers examination more difficult...But then they'd probably think they were taking away a civil right.
Whaaaaaaa????? You insult people who post on your forum - how can you expect people to support your site if you call them whiny *******??
Ummm I couldn't care less that you changed the title to blockheads .... so, lemme see ..... would you prefer I post about some dude I saw wearing shorts and a t-shirt or whether or not I should buy a blue or a yellow helmet???
The point of this post was to stimulate some discussion on cell phone use in cars and possibly the pathetic state of canadian media (albeit unsuccessful, at least Guy has some feedback)
If it bores you, ignore it ....

Yes, I also think it's a great idea - it's that kind of silly resistance which impedes progress. Maybe once the number of traffic accidents are reduced after banning cell phones the govt will pay less attention to street racers
Teaching people to multitask while driving is a vacuous suggestion - our brains just aren't wired that way. It's like teaching people to walk and juggle three balls at the same time .... no matter how hard they try, some people just aren't coordinated enough to do it

and when did you expect any thing sensible from the gov't....or it's broadcaster?
Talking on cell while driving - not dangerous
Talking on cell while driving via heaset/bluetooth - less dangerous
Talking on cell and trying to reverse or change lanes - little dangerous
Texting on cell while driving - very distracting

hahaa ... ok, you got me on that one
definitely don't expect anything sensible in this country. That's why I go to other national networks for my news - unless I want to find out about the most recent shooting at jane and finch in which case I'll tune in to citytv
Either way, most people need to pay some attention during a conversation (though I can think of times when this is not necessary) so there is less concentration left for driving
Yeah??? Well, I installed a cup holder and cruise control (throttle lock) on my motorcycle so I can a) send text messages b) drink a supersized slushy and c) wave to people with my right hand .... all simultaneously!!!
Beat that, BRO
