    Hahaha!

Although socialism isn't necessarily the best for ME (I could handle paying my own medical bills, won't need welfare, etc.), I do understand that it benefits other people. It's all about the "Golden Rule".
I'm an Actuarial Analyst for a Major Canadian Insurance Company. I analyse claims patterns to determine overall rate changes, as well as relative premium differences by various risk characteristics (eg. age, experience, claims, convictions, usage, etc.)

Unless it's private, please post insurance-related questions in the forum rather than sending me a PM.

But we have socialized some things... all of the 911 services have been socialized, the military etc... even the most capitalist of states has 'something' socialized.

I don't expect people to have a good impression of insurance companies until they have had made a claim to actually realize its value. People (in general) are completely ignorant of the way insurance works.

People like to complain rather than understand. The same thing can be said of people's impression of the Government and taxes. People seem to forget that taxes we pay are used for the many things in life that we have come to take for granted. When a politician says they will lower taxes, people cheer them on . . . I just can't believe how stupid people can be when they think a government can lower taxes but maintain the same level of public services. If the government said "we are lowering your taxes and taking "x" away!", would the people still cheer?

I would much rather live in Canada with our higher-than-average tax rates than in the USA. Have you ever drove on some roads in the States? Potholes galore! The worst roads in Toronto seem to be better than the best roads in Chicago. Their tax rates are lower, but with lowers taxes comes its drawbacks.
Only if people can understand how this all work. Money given out in claims has to come from somewhere!
