    pulled over 22 over

Got pulled over for 22 over (82 in a 60)
Does anyone know how this will effect my State Farm insurance?
    1st ticket.

Should I take it to court no matter what, or get the charge reduced?

Rule of thumb in this day and age: ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS take it to court. Especially if the ticket was not already reduced from your actual speed at the time.

And even then, I'd still fight it. 22 is small enough to be taken to court by yourself if you do your own homework and if you don't want to be hassled with it, spend $300 on a good paralegal (Redline's a great choice).

Fighting my tickets in court every time has kept my record clean over the last 5 years or so.

I've heard that SF lets 1st minor offence pass.

I am curious if 22km over is considered minor or not by SF ?

I need to know when I get disclosure what decision to make.
Depending on what the officer wrote. . .

Last couple of times I hired a paralegal, but the last time around it was paid for by my insurance broker.

1st I hired Xcopper (bad decision)

All he did was file for a court date.

Went to see him recently, to ask what he has been up to with my case....
    NOTHING

    I asked for disclosure,
He said he filled for it, no proof he did
Said he will get it before the court! ! ! ! !

Waste of money. Which sucks because I am a student.

    Hired Redline!

    Really good guys,

if you go to court, they'll knock you down 5km automatically,
    they wont 'automatically' reduce it.

Call Redline, file for your court date, put that check box next to the section that asks if you want to dispute the evidence. If you dont and the cop doesn't show, then your screwed, since the cop is the evidence.

And. ...why are you speeding? LOL

I have notice ever since the 50kph over law came out, the average speed of cagers on the 401 have dropped considerably. Only a very few handful of them are zooming around. For once in a long time I have actually not felt like a target on the road.

I got stopped for 81 in a 60 but it was reduced to 10 over with no points? First ticket in 24 years, so those of you with experience here, should I go to court for this or just pay up and shut up?

The rule of thumb is everthing should be fought. I had the same experience but got another one a few weeks later. You never know....

There's no telling the impact on your insurance .... although you may not get surcharged for one you may be in elligible for clean record discounts

First ticket after 18 years of driving. 16 over the limit, state farm wanted an extra $600 for my Mini Cooper S. I had to move insurance companies.

Usually they won't ding you for one ticket, but they will for 2 even they're both for 1km/h over the limit. That's what I found out when I got a 5km/h over ticket and my insurance rates went up by 20-30% b/c I received a 14km/h over ticket 9 months before that.
What the insurance companies look for are minor and major "convictions". 2 minor convictions (3 demerits or under, which includes no points) are enough to screw you. A "major" conviction is 4 demerits and up. I think you're also screwed if your demerit count goes over 4 for starters and it only gets worse the higher you go.

For Jevco at least (up to last summer), it works out as such (and I know this very intimately):

    + 1-49km/h - minor
    + 50- - major, equivalent to 3 minors
Based on your record for the 3 years prior.

First 2 minors are free. Starting at 3, each is worth +15% to your premium.

So if you manage to rack up 5 under +50 speeding tickets in the past 3 years, you're looking at 3 being of note, at +15% each, or +45%.

There is only a peripheral relation between insurance 'points' and MoT 'points'.
There is an insurance points table at http://www.magma.ca/~fyst/appndxg.htm

If you are getting a new insurance policy, you must tell them about every ticket. They will probably also ask you for dates. Once you have your policy, you are not responsible for telling the insurance company about new tickets; if they choose to pull a new abstract come renewal-time, they will find out on their own. They do not always pull new abstracts so you have a chance they will never notice any new speeding convictions.

From what I've heard, it is probably in your best interest to use a paralegal service to fight your ticket for you, unless you KNOW you can stand before an angry impatient judge and explain how you were wronged. Get the wrong judge and a ******-off prosecutor with no interest in dealing and it can get difficult to stand tall.
