that was just plain dumb, even if u got a spare motor for free. Now while doing a coaster is a different story.
He's not really hurting the bike at all as long as it's not overheating. That's what the rev limiter is there for anyway. Any modern sportbike can handle that kind of abuse. There was a video of an older model ZX-6R that they ran WOT for about 15 minutes before any major damage began to occur.

What would motivate somebody to do that and for so long? Why is it such a big deal to rev the piss out of an engine that has no load on it.

Where do these people come from?
In the comments section they explain that someone said to him something to the effect of "GSXRs blow up if you rev them", so he did it to prove otherwise. Personally, I would have said, "Nuh ah" and left it at that.
