The Bright Side of Bill 203...

You know how the song goes about looking on the bright side of life?

It used to be that if you were driving on a 400-series highway at anything up to 120kph, cops would leave you alone. But now, as a result of Bill 103, cops are so focussed on catching the 50-over drivers, that I'm guessing they won't bother stopping someone who's doing 130, or even 140.

They have made 50kph over the limit "bad", so anything less than that is "not so bad".

As a result of Bill 203, 140 is the new 120. Unintended consequences?

Except when its time to fill that quota, then there are lots more 30-40 over fish in the sea to catch with nice expensive tickets.

Call it "Fool and Snare 'em", the sequel to "Shock and Awe". Hey, I made a 'Woolley'

    Stop that! You're being silly!

Oh, and, sorry, but, you're wrong. Nice try, though. Law enforcement are still ticketing for 130 kph. Despite the bright side of life, 130 kph on the highway is still "not so good". LOL!

In addition to that even if he has proof that he's pulled over an X number of cars, given tickets to 5 and warnings to 15, sarge's still going to whine about the cash-strapped municipality if he's stupid or about "the lack of effectiveness of warnings" if he's smart, to go along with the unofficial reprimand.

I'm sure as hell not going to bet the farm on that. I read the same thing posted by the editor in the Toronto Sun. He said, "Drive at 125km/h, and you'll be fine.". I hope people bill him their tickets when they're spanked for doing that speed, or less.

Spanked with what? A fine? Pffft! Once enough people get suspended/impounded, getting a fine won't be no big thing. Insurance companies won't even ask about tickets or points any more. They'll just want to know how many times you were suspended.

    You're missing the point, Duster.

Fines are usually accompanied BY points. And with family who've worked entire careers in insurance, I know emphatically they are anal about EVERYTHING. Fines included. To them, a paid fine is essentially an admission of guilt (i.e. "I was doing something I wasn't supposed to be doing."). Behaviours which may determine a future payout on their investment (i.e. YOU), by them.

Anyone ever heard of sarcasm? Tongue-in-cheek comments? Satire? Being ironic?

Everyone's got to take everything so serious and literal. Maybe you guys should start working for the OPP. I hear they're looking for humourless drones over there.

I haven't noticed anybody slowing down. You can still cook along at 140kph in the fast lane as always.

Fortunately for you, no such officers ride bikes, or read this forum.

WHat if you ride 130-140 thinking your safe, and the cop "informs" you that your speed was actually 150? You gonna argue with him and face another $5000 fine for arguing, over and above what Your Honour Constable Officer is gonna give you for the 150? He doesn't even need to prove it, just say it.

Re: The Bright Side of Bill 203...

I'm actually buying into this. Driving westbound on the 407 today towing my dualsports I start down that big valley past the 400. I'm going 135ish as my momentum builds down the hill as I look up I can see a OPP cruiser perpendicular to the road a sure sign of a laser. He's no doubt shooting people as their speed builds.

I'm ready for this .... ok buddy bring it on .... wait wait silence. I didnt even rate a shot. 35 over and I'm a good citizen.

As I go past him he's still sighting other traffic and just waiting past him .... you guessed it 2 tow trucks.

So now I've upped my cruising speed to 140..... hey lemonade anybody
