    Gimme an idea?

My 17 year old son has recently acquired a 1971 CB 450 Honda twin that he and I are rebuilding. He would like to ride this bike next season. Bearing in mind his age (17) and the fact he will be a newly licensed rider, and the size of the bike (450) what might he be looking at for insurance premiums.......realistically?

Probably about $1500-$1700 for liability only (with rider training). Since it's an old bike it might be less though. If you have full coverage it will obviously make that higher.

From personal experience with vintage bikes, probably around $600-$700 but only from a few insurers like Jevco or Dalton Timmis. Most brokers don't insure bikes older than 25 years.

perhaps you can also ask the rate for you as the primary rider and him the secondary assuming that's the situation.

Thanks for the feedback Guys. He was afraid he might be looking at $2000 - $3000 or more, which would put an early end to his hopes of riding. Something in the range of $750 - $1500 might be a little easier to take.

He's learned early that his government and the insurance companies will do everything in their power to prevent him from becoming a motorcyclist. It's ridiculous really.

Bu oftentimes the quote is more heavily swayed towards the higher risk insuree (?) in which this case would be the 17.

my guess is between 15-2k. but make sure you get a min. 1mil liab.

    sell it, buy a vespa

think about it... on a 71 CB he'll only be attracting old men.
