The legal speed limit is what is posted on the signs.
    easy peasy,

    all bikes in right lane,
back bike goes to the front.
non stop rolling passing manuver at only 5 k faster than the pack .
and every on gets to be the leader!

I'm with Royson...what's that gonna prove? If nothing else, it will give the press (probably Nationally as well) a perfect opportunity to show all of Canada what a bunch of idiots Ontario motorcyclists are....at least the idiots in that parade.

I think a more constructive exercise would be to do a large, attention-getting group ride with all sport bikes but with NO wheelies and NO speeding, and see how long it takes for the group to get busted for "racing". All on tape, of course. Hellloooo courtroom, bye-byeeee, bill 203.

What if they were native motorcyclists? Then you'd be able to pull it off.

And you have until 2013 to plan that ride as well. That is the first time the 24th of May falls on a Friday. Wonder how many here will still feel the same way then?

If you're doing 100 Kmh on the 400/69 on the May 24 Friday, then you're doing it by lane splitting.

just curious, has anyone actually been ticketed for this?

don't slow moving cars go on the passing lane on 400 series highways ALL the time??

I have NEVER heard of anyone being ticketed for it in Ontario. Quebec? Sure.

don't yeah know 100km/h is the maximum allowed on those roads. you are obeying the letter of the law not purposely slowing down traffic since going faster then 100 would be illegal.

do a toronto to london and back again at 100kph using three lanes of the 401 and i would ride in it.

Re: Group ride - 150 the whole way

I think if you did it but made sure that the left-most lane was always unobstructed, I think you would be free of any potential charge and it would make a very interesting point.

It would say "We were able to get a lot of motorcyclists together for a disciplined, responsible ride, to pointing out that the posted speed limit is arbitrary and low"

Now, I am skeptical about our ability to actually get a large group of motorcyclists to do this.

Check the HTA. The statute involving giving way to the right for faster moving traffic states nothing about the speed of the overtaking traffic.

I think its too cold to do this now. But I like Rob's idea of riding at 100km/h without blocking the left most lane. I think 50 bikes would be enough to make a point.

I can make some stickers that we can all have on the back of our jackets. "

This bike does not exceed 100 km/h, please pass on the left."

I think a better sticker would be one that says "It is an offense to exceed 100km/h on a 400-series highway".

I like it because it is a simple statement of fact, and one that points out the absurdity of the fact as soon as you state it.
