Bizarre Incident Leads Cops Looking For One Suspect To Haul In Another
Wednesday October 31, 2007

A bizarre set of circumstances led to a local school lockdown, roads being closed off and police patrolling a large section of Etobicoke Tuesday morning. The alarm bells were first raised with reports that a man was doing donuts on 24th and Lakeshore around 9:30am.
In a strange coincidence, plainclothes detectives were in the area looking for a suspect wanted in a separate murder case and observed what was going on. "They came across a pickup truck that was doing brake stands - unbelievable at this early morning hour burning rubber in the middle of Lake Shore Blvd. and 24th," relates Det. Les Wright. "So seeing the children in the area, they thought they should caution this driver."
When he pulled his yellow pickup into a parking lot, they headed over to remind the motorist that it's Halloween and he should be more careful. It appears their intention was simply to warn the man, but they never got the chance. He apparently saw them coming and hit the gas, driving over a curb and hitting the street, before rear-ending a car and winding up trapped in a laneway. "The K-9 unit was able to find the accused hiding in a rear backyard ... and they arrested him."
He surrendered without resistance, as cops lectured him about his stupidity. "Hey pal," one can be heard saying as he's handcuffed and searched. "You shouldn't be driving like that. All we were going to do was tell you to smarten up 'cause it was Halloween - and look at the mess you're in now."
Cops allege the truck he was in was stolen and the suspect is facing a variety of theft and driving charges.
Several roads were closed off while the drama was unfolding and a local school was temporarily locked down as a precaution. In the end, there were no injuries, just an unnecessary disturbance caused by a guy who allegedly couldn't wait to hear what cops really had to say.
So these cops were looking for a murder suspect and stopped their search to find and charge a guy doing donuts in his truck?
Sometimes cops DO actually only give you a warning. The guy must have been missing a few screws anyway. To be doing donuts in a STOLEN truck....
If you try to make it idiot-proof, someone will just make a better idiot....

That's right, if you're going door to door polling for witnesses in a non emergency situation, god forbid you try and talk to a guy who is obviously a complete retard doing crazy things in a pickup.
Whether they were just going to talk to him or not..... this guy does not sound like the kind of poster-boy you want for your argument.

Think IMMEDIATE danger...a pick up doing donuts around kids is probably more dangerous at the moment...chances are the murderer isn't going out at that moment to kill someone.
If they were in plain clothes...then he didn't know he was running from the cops...he was just running...another dangerous situation....

To the OP:
Did you even read the article? The truck was stolen and the guy is doing donuts with kids around. If you're going to preach regarding the new law, use a worthwhile scenario.
Secondly, unless the cops were waiting for the murderer to jump out of a bush at that moment, I think they had a few moments to spare to tell a guy to stop driving like an *** around kids.

He probably would have got away if he did'nt run, but with a stolen truck I guess you can't take the chance. It's amazing what cops will let you get away with when they work in special units. It's like certain types of "police work" are beneath them now.

Like many active sports, shooting has the potential to cause personal injury.
