Yeah seriously...like today i was on my way home from work and i saw this cop that was "stunting" as the lane calls it now...He was making unsafe lane changes. I'm not just talking about one or two. He'd floor it pass somebody then change without a signal then he'd change back no signal and floor it again to pass somebody, and he just kept lane changing without signaling on Lakeshore. His lights weren't on either. Power tripping cops, i bet you if i did that on my bike he'd have nailed me for sure with "stunting"

Need to start video taping this crap and start sending it to the media. If they are overwhelmed by video of cops and car drivers doing stupid things they would have almost no choice but to do a story on it.
My Treo does video even if it is not the best quality its quite usable, think I'll start get'n short vids of the idiots out there.
If you try to make it idiot-proof, someone will just make a better idiot....

You need more than luck; you need a darn good lawyer.

I hear you on the videotaping, I'll be doing that, too. Remember that a critical aspect of videotaping while riding is NOT doing anything that will incriminate yourself: No wheelies, no excessive speeds ...

Fantino should talk to his officers, to get a grip on reality. I've been told by an OPP officer while I was getting a ticket for doing 35 over in a 80km zone that they don't usually pull anyone over for a ticket unless they are going over 30kph over the limit.
The defacto speed limit around here is 100kph. So you won't get a ticket until you go over 10kph over that limit. Unfortunately, the ticket will be for doing at least 30 over.
Court knocked it back down to 20 over anyway, what a waste of time.

I like the idea of video tapping the cops but i think all they need to say is they are responding to a call and it goes away.....

A protest that would get a WHOLE lot more attention immediately would be to have a parade along all the 400 series taking up all available lanes with the leaders driving with the cruise control set at 100kph -- instant gridlock and the public goes nutz! Since Fantino & Woolley don't want us to speed then let them deal with the consequences.

I'm not interested in videotaping the cops. I'm interested in videotaping MYSELF so that I have a shot of having a defense in the event of being wrongly or unfairly accused.

Fantino is too far detached from "everyman" to ever have a hope of having a grip on reality.

i hate rain in on everyone but......

before you go out video taping police... you might what to know that it could be considered illegal.

i wish i could find the news report.... but i was watching something bout a month ago on this exact idea.

people would follow police officers and tape them doing bad things.

they coined a phrase for it... civil police.. or something like that.

but just be careful... make sure you know the law b4 u do it. and use it.

if i find the newsreport.. i will post it.

Certain recent situations suggest that we have a lot more to be concerned about than the 50-over criteria.

Hey folks, thanks for all the support on this thread.

Maybe if I really want to start stirring the pot I should start a discussion about all the Impaired and Over 80 charges the crown withdraws because it's just too much work to prosecute these charges. Sadly in my line of work I see it far too often.

You cant bring that up, see thats too hard to enforce and not alot of money to be made. After all how hard is it to cease a car and give someone a 10,000 $ fine? its all about the money in the end...

Following someone with the expressed purpose of video taping his activities could be termed "stalking." If you're simply running a camera in a public place, then that's a different story.

Since when has it become illegal to video tape cops? If its on public property such as the highways whats the problem , inside the police station would be a different story i think.

Re: OPP Police Chief Fantino - are you serious?

I'm not going to bother searching out the relevant clauses to it, and i'm not going to profess to being a lawyer, so take my word for what it is worth .. next to nothing.

If a conversation is being recorded, a situation is being video-taped as part of surveillance, as long as *one* party is aware of the recording going on (ie. the person doing the recording will suffice), then it is legal.

Note that this does not permit you to go up-skirt camming, or producing kiddy porn in the school locker room. These are covered by other statutes.

As unlikely as i am to get pulled over for 'stunting' or 50 over for the sidecar rig, or my Vulcan when it is on the road - i will be investing in a bullet cam to go with my cam-corder, and a GPS unit for use in my Van and Motorcycles... i call it a wise pro-active investment in today's legal climate.

*edit* - it looks like Rob found the relevant info, as usual.
