Hey Dad,

Modular's don't add much for face protection in the event of a face plant. At least most on the market so far. Haven't heard of a modular that has pass Snell yet.


So, yes they are good for wind/weather/rain protection but, they don't offer much (if any) protection for a face impact.

Well, they offer significantly more than an 3/4 open faced or half helmet, and that is good enough for me.

Not a knock on modulars or your choice and really, it's kind of a high jack to the tread.


I happenned to purchase a modular for very much the same reasons you have. However, I later found out the basic design of pretty well most modular helmets will result in the chin bar collapsing during a frontal impact. They do provide some protection during a face skid or slide. Just food for thought is all.

I ride with a beannie most the time and have the modular for cool days, long highway trips or rain.

+1 that looks like shell failure........ I just weaked another ARAI RX7 on Monday night, took a pretty bad hit as my head was squashed between the bike and the ground. Got a small concussion, my teeth hurt and I need to see a dentist, but at least they are all still in my mouth. Shell is dented but still intact

And a broken visor is an other reason I like side pod helmets, the visor should pop off before it breaks while still on the helmet.

I have a black CL-10 or -15 or something? oh yeah and a yellow flamey helmet. And I just found out my little lady friend will try going around the block - woohoo! that's why I got the second helmet in the first place.

Nothin special, just bought a flat black Vega Attitude, I love being able to ride around with the visor up and the inner tint down though

best helmet ive ever owned.. it made me realize you get what you pay for when buying a helmet. precious helmet was a shark s650, the shoei makes the shark feel like i was wearing a basket on my head.
