if it's governed, wouldn't be too much faster than an electric one?

my brother was 7 and I was 9 when we got our first dirt bikes.
I don't see it being more dangerous than hockey. LOL
I don't think it's a problem, but it would have be somewhat age appropriate, supervised, and up to good specs.
For example, I think it's far more dangerous to give an unsupervised 9 year old a pocketbike in a suburb of TO then to give a 7 year old a small, well maintained ATV and supervise their rides through areas that are geared toward their skill level.
Safety and common sense first. And of course, it depends on how good your kid is. Some are ready, some aren't.
Never too young !
My son started riding his PW50 (Yzinger) at 2 years 9 months. He loved it and couldn't go fast enough(bike was governed to a slow jog at first). But as he got older his friends all had ATV's so he got one at 6 and then at 8 he got back into bikes on a JR 80 & KLX110. This spring I will get him another 80.
Which reminds me his 2001 Polaris Predator 50 is for sale $1500 obo
This is a quality ATV, no chinese nock-off.

(is that better ?)
My son rode a quad at 5 with a 3spd - no clutch
Next year at 7 he will be on a dirtbike
Made a deal with my son. Ride a bike without training wheels and then a minibike.
He did at 5 and I bought him a PW50. My daughter learned at 5 as well. She rode a bicycle for the first time in a Thursday then Saturday on the minibike. It all worked well. They are 9 and 11 now and have all theyre parts.
My GF's nephews have been on dirtbikes and snowmobiles since 3 or 4. All of their toys are governed in some form.
My mom used to hold me on her skis when I was 1 years old. From there she used to prop me up on her bike when I was about 2 ish. No such thing as starting when they are too young. I wouldn't be where I am today if my parents played the age card with me.
I was about 8 when I got my first minibike. Of course my dad made me buy it myself with my paper money cause he thought i would take care of it having to pay for it myself. After a year on that he bought me my next bike (KX80). If you have the space to do it I say start him early.
Start them young..

Motorcycle racing is taken very seriously in Asia. If this child looses a race... no sushi for dinner!

I had my first mini bike at around 10. My nephew got a KTM dirt bike for his 5th birthday (50cc, with a governor). I have always said that I want to get my son a four wheeler or a dirt bike, the problem is that in the city he would have no where to ride it (he is four).

My boy started at 4 on said pw50, then to HR50 (3 speed), pw-80, TTR-90. At 8 went to pocket bikes (Factory ride and OPBRL junior champion!), then to a BMS 6.2 euro PB (clocked at Mosport at 79km/hr!), latest bike (he's 9 now) is a Honda NSR50R race bike to campain at Shannonville next season. He's little, he's fast, has 4 sponsors and is probably a better rider than half the gang on this forum, myself included (I'm not kidding about that). Start 'em young, they will let you know thier limits.
Cheers.

There's a dirt bike training school at Horseshoe, north of Barrie. Book a family day and let them try it before you dive in.
If you live in the city, you'll have to be commited to taking them out as well, make sure it fits into your lifestyle.
