    Slow to fire up.

Would this likely be a wiring issue? I have a 2006 sv650s. When I go to start the bike, warm or cold, it is very slow to fire lately. (Clutch in, starter pushed, wait 5-10 seconds). A couple times, I've had to go through the motions a couple times before it fires. No turnover or anything. Just random delays. Any thoughts?

When is the last time the sparkplugs were changed?

    Valve clearances?

Sounds like a wiring problem, possible poor ground, Check for loose or corroded battery cables. Can you hear the starter solenoid click when you hit the starter button?

Spark plugs or valve clearence's will not cause a no crank problem.

On re-reading the initial post, it's not clear whether this is a "no-crank", or a "crank but no fire". Clarify, please ...

It's all or nothing... it's just wait wait (no sounds), ok start.

Twowheelchick states "no turn over or anything"
Dont rule out the battery, it may be pouched

Bike is a year old. Battery shouldn't be gone.

It is near impossible to diag a problem over the internet, you would have to hear/see the problem, to even start to diag.

There is a plug under the tank between the steering head and the airbox. SV are famous for burning out the plug ( its the yellow one) There is a main power lead that is generally the problem. Its an easy fix but its a beotch to get at. The easiest way is do not try to shortcut it. remove the tank and airbox. Then remove the rad and you can get it unplugged to have a look. If it looks scorched just soulder in a bypass and all should be rosey.

I work at a car dealership, I see battery's that are less then one month old being replaced under warranty, just because its new doesn,t mean it OK, When doing a proper diag everything is tested, you cant assume nothing.

I agree with you Ronnie - nothing can be assumed. I did have a minor crash this year, lots of sand got into the switches too plus the rad got busted by the horn and was removed and put on. I don't seem to have any other mechanical issues though.

I'll have someone take a look at it.
