    Parting out a motorcycle

    Hi all,

just wondering if anybody has done this. What is involved when dealing with the chassis??? I know to get the title transferred on a bike, you need to get safetied, so how does it work when you are parting it out?? Any info would help. Im seriously considering parting out my 749.

The title travels together with the frame. Whoever buys the frame, buys the registration paperwork so that they will be able to use it.

yes...i am selling it, just considering the idea of parting it out. I might get more out of it, but im not sure, just a thought. I was just curious as to the process.

you might get more $, but it would probably take a lot longer to sell everything off...especially the little bits.

To answer your ?...if you sold off the frame, you would sell the frame with the ownership. If the bike/frame is not branded irreparable, the buyer would transfer ownership as unfit. If the buyer then built a bike around the frame, he could get it safetied and get plates and insurance on it. If he transfered ownership as just a frame...then it's probably a whole diff story, but it wouldn't matter to you as you sold it with the ownership.
